EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A southwestern Indiana couple has pleaded guilty to criminal confinement for duct-taping their two young children to chairs and leaving them bound for more than nine hours.
Twenty-six-year-old Brian K. Shiver and 25-year-old Martina M. Shiver entered their pleas Wednesday in Vanderburgh Circuit Court. Brian Shiver pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal confinement, two counts of neglect and two counts of battery, while his wife pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal confinement. The Evansville couple will be sentenced May 9.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports the Shivers were arrested Feb. 25 after their 2-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl were found duct-taped to chairs in the couple's Woodland Park Apartments from their chests to below their waists. The youngsters' hands and legs were also immobilized with tape.
