royal was the Maryland based wawa type store. with wawa expanding and frankly getting worse, they saw an opportunity to encroach on wawa business. they are different, but no better. they offer competition, which might make both better at some point but thus far remains to be seen. the first few that opened were initially great but are suffering from staffing issues and inventory. the one nearest me, last time I went in about six months ago was fuggin filthy. I haven't been back. wawa has the culture over royal.

Ya, some love it, but $14.00 for 8 pieces ???
I can get the same at Safeway for $6.00, and it's just as good.

Haven’t tried their fried chicken but heard it’s good. And expensive. Lots of grocery store fried chicken is legit. Harris teeter for example.

Plus ethanol free gas. Around here anyway.

I worked a post back in the day (60's- 70's) in Baltimore, I had only one place of refuge on the midnight shift, it was one of the first RFS's. After the bars closed and the drunks went home, that was the only business open.
Myself and the owner became good friends and hung out for years.
Have a few relatively new ones around my way, a few of us during the winter doldrums days will meet at one for coffee around 2 PM, sit there and BS.

A few are shitholes due to piss poor management (franchises), but most are pretty clean. Usually a pee stop for me on longer rides here and there.
