Considering the mass panic, the price and purported local availability of this stuff make me want to go pick up a 500 rd box or two. Anyone tried it?

I’ve been thinking about this...

Check their site bill. Bass Pro/ Cabella only allows 1 order per day shipment now (box)

I bought a few boxes for the range and it ran fine for me, and I think what I had may have been aluminum cased instead of brass.

Herter's is a very old name in the sporting goods world. I believe they folded back in the 80s sometime? So it appears someone resurrected the name and is selling based on name recognition? If it meets SAAMI spec it should be just fine although FMJ ammo would not be my first choice for defensive use.

EDIT: A quick search reveals this to be Sellier and Bellot manufacture. Good stuff.

I well remember Herter's . Even shot some of their guns way back when.

As stated above S.& B. makes good ammo!

Shot a bunch of it in my wife's 6.5 Creedmoor, just last week!

They are out of everything but the most expensive rounds.

Target Sports USA Customer,

**Please expect 10-day shipping delay on all orders due to the increase demand.**

We are doing everything we can to ship your order as soon as possible including: implementing a second shift, hiring additional employees and offering overtime to our office staff to keep up with compliance requirements and any customer inquiries. Please note even with these changes, we also have a huge increase in customer email & phone call volume so please bear with us for any delays in response. You can check your order status online at www.TargetSportsUSA.com under My Account.

We are also working closely with all manufacturers to keep products in stock at competitive pricing. Unfortunately, we have been informed that all manufacturers are now shipping product at an increased cost, due to demand. We are doing everything we can to mitigate these costs for our customers while trying to keep as much inventory as we can in stock.

We are thankful for our Prime Members and customers for their patience and understanding during this time! We are doing everything we can to navigate during these difficult times.

You could look at this either way. Do you really need some? They've got it because they jacked up the prices. Compare and contrast with Target Sports. They are picked clean, although if things actually get bad, maybe some of that high dollar frangible, tracer, and soft/hollow point stuff might be good to have.

i just did an inventory of my ammo, all calibers.

i'm ok for a bit.

they could limit amounts. but raping by charging twice normal rate is wrong.

If all you have to defend yourself with is full metal jacket that's better than throwing rocks. If however you are truly concerned with NEEDING to defend yourself please do a bit of research, get some "product improved" ammunition and make certain you buy enough to shoot a bunch and make sure your gun will go bang EVERY TIME when loaded with whatever you choose. I recommend at least 50 rounds downrange without failure as a bare minimum.

any bullet is better than no bullet. missed shots are a waste of ammo. if you are stuck with FMJ, aim carefully. if you have JHP, still aim carefully.

I have a little Cor-Bon +p hollow point, but it's literally been two decades since I shot any of it. Good advice, though. I guess I picked a bad time to decide to actually go practice, although I don't think I did horribly when I went Wednesday. I'm gonna go through a couple boxes of the target stuff this afternoon, just to get ready for the ccw class tomorrow

Texas allows you to use any gun, no specifications or restrictions, still 50 shots total. Question: how are they going to score you? You'll no doubt end up with one hole on the target that all 50 shots went through. Are you going to spread it out a little bit just so you can show 50 different holes? Spell DAB on the paper maybe?

our requirements are by type of gun (semi-auto or non-semi-auto [revolvers and derringers], and by caliber. you can only carry gun types and calibers that you have qualified with. so i qualify with both types, and i qualify with the largest calibers i have.

i'll shoot my 1911 in 45ACP, and thus i can carry any semi-auto of 45 cal or smaller (normally a 9mm, but i'm good for 9mm, 40, and 45). and i'll shoot my 44 mag revolver, so I can carry that caliber or smaller in revolver if i choose. can use 44 special in a 44 mag. it's by caliber size, not power. so a 44 mag is the same caliber as a 44 special. i have some bunny fart 44 special loads (cowboy loads).

already checked with the instructor. he said one ragged hole is fine for me. he's seen me shoot before at matches.

25 shots, 15 at 3 yards, 10 at 7 yards. target is a sheet of paper 12x18. any hit on paper counts. need 18 hits out of 25 shots. can almost do it blindfolded.

and we have to shoot this course of fire every 2 years.

dumb law, but that's what we have to live with for now.

i'm thinking of making a happy face.

Well, I passed, now I just need to send in the paperwork for the license. I wonder if anyone is working at the state to actually print out a CHL these days. Probably not.

Also, Bass Pro indicated they had some Blazer brass available, so I tried to buy a few boxes. Turns out they'd only let you purchase one box of .380, but OK, I wanted a couple of the bulk 9 boxes, so what the heck.

Got e-mail today, your order is delayed, if we don't ship in 60 days, we'll cancel it. Sounds like they didn't have any when I ordered it in the first place. I'm not terribly upset, this isn't a normal time for them, either.

Bill

Update: No .380, they still promise to ship the 9 later.
