Does our constitution, which calls for the census to be taken every 10 years, require us to report whether we have a mortgage?

No, but it gives Congress the power to say what goes on the form.

OK, that says the enumeration (i.e., counting) will be done in such a manner as directed by Congress. I'm not seeing how the "manner" of counting could include mortgages.
I don't know why this concerns me; it just bothers me when I don't understand or agree with the need for information I'm being asked for. I'm sure I'll just answer the question & life will go on. Or leave it blank & make them come visit me.

The real mystery is what they do with the information. They should be more open about that. Perhaps knowing how many people are paying a mortgage could figure partially into the Fed adjusting interest rates? Who knows?:island14:

It should concern you because the incompetent civil servant ****s who work for our government have a horrible track record when it comes to keeping personal data secure. :yesnod:

Seems legit.
I wonder: since the incompetent civil servant ****s sent me two identical copies of the census form am I legally required to fill out and return both of them?
