View Full Version : Today was a Good Day II: You Might be a Redneck if You Clean the Garage 'n Find a Car
Part II: Phoenix Rising
Well, the Vette is at the dealer getting a full complement of fluid changes. The bad news is, I noticed it getting a little hot when stopped in heavy traffic. It seemed to run about 195, but sitting for minutes at a time caused it to go to 210-220, so I don't know....stuck thermostat? They're gonna check it out for me.
But the exciting news of the day is....I have an '02 T/A that has also been sitting for probably around 3 years. The battery came back with the desulfator I bought, so I turned it to accessory and....success, battery works, and the best news, the gas gauge was dead center on Empty. I mean empty. Aired up the ORIGINAL set of tires (lost my factory Canadian air).
OK, so a quick trip to Alvin to get pure gas (no ethanol), added it and Seafoam to the tank and.....started right away, sounded just fine. Idled smooth, Quiet Riot CD playing in the trunk mounted CD changer......like a time machine.
I'm thinking about doing the same, having some fluids changed, but this time maybe just the brake fluid, power steering, engine oil, maybe that's it, then I'll run out this gas and then do a fill up with the Lucas gas treatment and see what happens.
I did notice a small oil spot on the garage floor, but I think it was there the last time it was driven. I'll see what that is and fix it if it's not the rear main seal or something horrible like that.
Edit: I don't know why the camera phone pics came out so shitty. I'm just gonna blame it on Utah, since he doesn't ever show up anymore.....

Sell it and purchase a photography class :yesnod
If you find a TR6 in that black hole you call a garage, then give me a call and I'll ask someone on the forum to go check it out for me.

What else is in that garage that hasn’t been driven in over 3 years?

You really don’t want to know

Well, that was hopefully going to be part III and part IV, but since you asked:
~'96 Collector's Edition with correct, but NOM LT4 ....cammed, built....scary fast, and correct, but not numbers matching MN6 trans.
~'05 Yamaha Midnight Road Star
I haven't gotten the battery out of the vette because I just couldn't get to it, since it accesses from the driver fender. Maybe later this week I'll get that battery out and see if it will come back with the desulfator.
The m/c battery is AGM, and my desulfator didn't work on it....apparently you need a different model of desulfator for AGM's. I'm debating whether to get another desulfator on the off chance that I didn't fully fry it with the one I've got, or just get a new battery. Price is the same, so, take a chance and either get the existing battery back or not and then buy a new battery. Still thinking about that.

I also found my generator, which also fired up after a few shots of carb cleaner. Drained the old gas and added....pure gas. Expensive, but worth it:

Heck, the fans don't even turn on until coolant temp reaches 226.
If it exceeds 235 (the point where fans switch from low to high speed), then something is wrong.

I am such a fan of the 98-02 T/A's. How many miles?

Dealer doing the fluid flushes confirms its the thermostat. They wanted over $ 200 to replace it. I bought a 160 degree thermostat and I'll just put it on myself.
