Back in the early 80's I supposedly had a TS clearance, but in fact I never saw/learned anything of particular importance, just what I consider minor points of interest.....

SO my question is.....what they refer to as TS clearance is a group of various levels, and I ASSUME mine was minimal.....but it did take about 6 months to get it, long about '81 or so.....

so am I correct??? I did visit a few 'hot spots' on that job though.....

TS clearance by itself really doesn't mean much as everything is compartmentalized. You have to be read in for various levels(authorized to have access to it and some are difficult to get).
It's one year usually for a TS SSBI background check.

You would know if you had a TS clearance. They dig into your past pretty good. I've never had any particular need for one. I have a secret clearance, but hell, they will give that to about anyone.

Yeh my friends did say they were interviewed as I was for one or two of them many years before that even....

so under the TS reference there are various grades....?? thought so, seemed too easy to get, even with ~6 months, I had forgotten the papers were ever filed to be honest, but soon as the notes came through to the company, I started traveling to interesting spots.....

As long as don't have any active felony charges and a pulse you're in for a secret clearance ..
Believe it or not the Arty unit I worked with had problems getting anyone a secret clearance.

Yeh, kind of what I thought, in reality it was much of a 'clearance' at all.....

as I sure don't recall any need for it......so it was just bottom rung....

thought so as time went on.......

:seasix:If you has a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) you would know.

If you don't then you didn't.

My half brother works for one of the "ABC" agencies out of DC. He told me straight out not to ask ANYTHING relating to his job or work.

When he went thru his security check, they talked to every single teacher he had including grade school.

I had several clearances & accesses during my govt career, including TS. I was surprised when they tracked down former neighbors then living in other states.

Anyone ever have or hear of a COFRAM clearance/access? I had it back around 1970; it was a security violation to tell anyone without it what the name stood for. :Jeff '79:

I've never worked for the government, but I have had a guy sitting at my kitchen table asking me about a college friend who used me as a reference. The questioning about her was in depth, and I also noticed the interviewer looking around carefully at me and my house, I guess trying to gauge me, since I was vouching for someone else.

My neighbor's son is going into the Army and got an MOS as a foreign language linguist, so he'll be learning Russian, which seems pretty cool, get paid to learn another language . An investigator left a card on my door, and when I called, he just said he wanted to question me about an unnamed neighbor for a security clearance, but that he had already talked to another neighbor, so no need to talk to me. He didn't disclose who it was, but I put it together later, after several of the neighbors and I were out shooting the breeze.

Jet engine mechs don't normally need TS or even S clearances. Since I did audits of workcenters that dealt with secret equipment, aka avionics, I had a Secret clearance. I don't believe I'd be eligible for a TS since I was born overseas and was a citizen of a different country. Although I have lived here from the age of 2 months.

That same situation didn't stop Obama from becoming president. I bet you could get TS clearance, too.

Come to think of it my division officer was born in Iran and was of Iranian descent. His family fled Iran when the Shah was deposed. So maybe TS isn't linked to your original place of citizenship.

One of my neighbors kids was applying to go to one of the federal ABC type agencies. So it was not unexpected when a knock on the door months later a nice younger male with a bright gold badge wanted to ask me a bunch of questions. He was very professional and did not just flash the "tin" and ID, he held it out there so I could get a good look at it. Invited him in and I gave my 2 cents.

It took a bit more time but my neighbor went to their school and now is a field worker in his department.

Gave interviews for a couple neighbors. Each time it took a year/year and a half for the interviewer to show up at my doorstep. I felt like they were investigating me just as much as my neighbor :Jeff '79:
