OP, you need to be more specific on how you plan to use your security system. Are you just interested in watching the kids in the pool? Do you want to just record what the cameras see, or do you want to watch it in real time remotely? Are you just interested in monitoring the perimeter, or do you want to see the inside, too? Basically, what's your definition of "monitoring"?

One of the guys on a boating forum I'm on had a problem with someone stealing gas from his boat.
He got a trail camera

Turned out one of the neighbors was stealing his gas. He said the look of disbelief when he showed him pictures of himself stealing the gas was priceless.
He did give him the option of paying for the gas or he was going to the police with the proof. :beat:

Mainly for having a record of what goes on when we're not home during the day. Been thinking about it since the neighbor got a pit bull and likes to let him roam around unleashed. Then today we had a problem with some young men visiting neighbors in the court on the other side. There's a report on file with the Sheriffs Dept. and they were warned to stay away from our property. I will be posting no tresspassing signs and would like to add some sort of video recording.

If you really only want them for day use you can go to Sam's and get a 4 camera and DVR kit cheaper than commercial grade cameras. I have some day/night cameras on my house they are great for the day but for good night use they need a lot of light, I know where you are at it's dark so unless you have good outside lighting it would be hard to get good night pictures. Most of the DVR's out now you can put on your home network and watch your camers for work.
I have installed some good IP cameras for work that have good pictures day and night but they are $$$.

An easy to install system is offer by Logitech. We have the first version of it and might upgrade to the new version. They use existing electrical wires to transmit the video signal back to the computer. You can access the video over the web and set up alerts to your phone to text you.

Have you got them outside and if so how do they work in the dark?
