My wife can drive anything. In the 70s she was married to a minister and she used to drive the Jesus bus. No power steering, three pedals and a double stick.

I took my drivers test at 16 in my 63 SS 327 4 speed Impala. The first 4 cars I owned were manuals. My C6 was a manual but my C7 is a 8 speed automatic with paddle shift. Not the same as having a clutch.:cert:

I rode motorcycles for years before I ever drove a car with a stick. Took me about 2 minutes to get it down, and I didn't own a car with a manual transmission until after I got married. Just knowing how to shift using a clutch (whether it be a hand clutch or foot operated clutch) and what the motor sounds like when you need to shift is key, the rest is just a little muscle memory.

Started out driving an 89 Nissan "Hardbody" Pickup and an 82 Toyota Celica. Both 5 speed manuals. Took the drivers exam in the Toyota, which incidentally was my first car. (Hand me down after mom got a new car).


My current daily, a 2014 Toyota Tacoma, was the first Automatic Transmission vehicle I have ever bought. I did drive an Automatic Toyota Highlander for awhile, but that was a hand me down from the wife after she got a new car.

Everything else have been manuals. My current fun car, the 5.0, is a six speed manual.

I like stick shifts, but I'm getting a bit old to drive one daily in LA traffic. :island14:

When I was 12, my BIL taught me to drive his 4 sp Ford Cortina on a field road in NH. A couple of false starts before I got the hang of it!:cert:

When my company stopped furnishing cars, I had to buy me something. Didn't have a lot of money at the time and I bought a Mazda B2000 pickup and opted for the 4 speed manual as it was cheaper.

I loved driving it and I would take rides every sunday morning in the country because I enjoyed it so much. Never did that after I went to f150's. I really miss that little ride! I put full moon hubcaps on it.
