I ran across an ad for a "1967 Corvette Big Block Hood prototype" for sale. Her are some pics:

22208
22209
22210
The ad says: "This is a real nice hood that is in like new condition. It is really well made and looks like GM. There is a manufacturer's sticker underneath. This does not look like a reproduction as it is too well made with extra reinforcement ribbing."
Any comments?

Interesting, but I'd be wary of anything listed as "prototype" "rare" etc without some kind of documentation or somebody that can check it out that REALLY knows what they are looking at, especially if it's a small fortune. :island14:
What was the asking price?

If it is OEM, there will be a part number stamped on it.

After research (I asked our parts director who has been here for 35 years), Rockwell is an aftermarket replacement hood. So it is in fact NOT a GM part.
what would you do with it?
hang on the wall, or hope you can sell it later for more? (greater fool theory).

Hoods came from a single outside supplier that shipped to both plants; there was only one mold for each hood. The St. Louis plant was the only plant to build BB cars in 1967. A.O. Smith messed up the stinger stripes at the start of the run and were not allowed to build BB 1967 cars. All panels were press-molded. The 1967 BB hoods were so popular as an aftermarket add on several jumped in to mfg. them for the aftermarket. Which might be what this item is..and it's still pretty cool, but doesn't look like a press-molded piece. The press molds are big $$$$$$$$$$ Semersheims and Corvette Image were the only two mfgs. to offer press-molded aftermarket panels. I think DOW was the supplier to the factories.
And it's and old wives tale about some 1967 SB cars being equipped with BB hoods. Noland Adams helped flame the fire in his book about a problem with the mold and some SB cars being assembled with BB hoods.
