CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The woman who used her infection as a weapon went before a judge Monday morning.

32-year-old Caroline Slusher pleaded not guilty to one count of robbery and one count of theft.

On October 3rd, Slusher entered the BP gas station at 552 East 152d Street and began taking candy off of shelves and putting it in bags or into her clothing.

The attendant confronted her. Slusher, who was infected with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), showed her arm to the attendant and then fled the store.

Slusher has been on the run since November, and was arrested by the Sheriff's Office on March 30th on a warrant.

Her bond was set at $25K dollars.

MRSA is actually quite common. Most people are able to fight it off, if your immune system is compromised..not so much. It occurs in public places (gyms, grocery stores, ... ) At work (jail) it is a pretty big deal- plenty of "compromised" inmates. Inmates who are suspected are quarentined, many times they will say "hey , I got this spider bite"...uh, no thats a boil....most likely MRSA...
A co worker of mine got it, once it catches hold it is resistant to most medicines, and eventually died.:sadangel:
People look at me kind of funny at the gym when I spray down equipment before using it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry
