We adopted her about 6 months ago. She's a greyhound/lab mix. FAST as hell and was on the streets when she was captured by animal control. Obviously, she had to learn to hunt to survive.
I posted a thread awhile back about her snagging a 'possum. She chases the squirrels every time she's let out of the back door. It's kind of like her tending her crops. She has to go to all of the trees on each lot on either side of our yard.
Anyways, she got the squirrel, it did not live, but she got bit on the lip. She has her rabies shots and the vet said she should be fine.
I've still never told my wife about the 'possum. :leaving:

Awesome.... good for doggie. I have a little 5lb Yorkie and he's amazingly fast, he can go from zero to full speed instantly. He chases the birds, cats, rabbits etc. in the back yard all the time. Once he actually caught the rabbit but he had no idea what to do to it when he was on it. The rabbit got through a tiny hole in the fence and Bowie stood there stunned.

I swear to God she was a Kangaroo in a former life. She bounds, jumps and pounces just like a roo. It's fun to watch. She definitely got her speed from a greyhound. Our 7 year old Chocolate Lab looks like a 95 year old geriatric on a walker compared to her. When throwing a shared ball to both of them, he just gives up and says f-that.

Does she destroy a lot of stuff in the house?
I always thought it was interesting to see the hunting dogs that figured out to leap to get a better view of what they were looking for. The poodles seemed to do it a lot more than the labs.

My aunt's terrier mix hates squirrels with a passion unfelt by any other animal I have ever seen. She has climbed straight up a tree trunk just on sheer momentum, far enough to damn near knock herself unconscious from the fall down. She's caught several and usually beats them to death before she gets bit.
She doesn't really eat them, she just dismembers them and scatters their remains around the yard! For 4 or 5 days after she murders one she is about as proud as a dog can be, she struts around the yard and barks at every bird.
She's also caught a couple blackbirds and dove. Mourning doves aren't very smart and will land next to her dry food bowl that is sitting on the doorstep to my aunts back porch while she's right inside the door. She's just dive out and snag them.

She's barely over 1 year old, so we've had a few "chewing" casualties, but it's pretty much under control. The biggest thing we're dealing with is a nervous bladder. It's OBVIOUS that she was beaten and abused as a pup. While she receive nothing but love and kisses from all three of us, and has now been granted access to sleeping in my daughter's bed at night (lab sleeps with us), when we approach her some times, even with a high-pitched, loving voice, she acts as if we're going to hit her, and she pees. I know in time she'll be fine, but it's certainly an issue now.
Chewing was an issue in the beginning. She had a relapse (minor) recently, but it's pretty much under control. She has definitely learned the ropes from the older dog.

That's funny as hell. It definitely reminds me of "Cricket" (that's her name). They are definitely "proud" when that capture the prey. :yesnod:

I'll post one when I get home today. I don't have one over here in Boca.
We have a Pit/something really fast mix that goes bat shit crazy when the neighbor's cat is around. Well, last week she finally caught the thing. Had it cornered and got at least one good lick in before the cat decided to turn and fight. When I came around the corner our dog was reconsidering her options. I guess chasing the cat turned out to be a lot more fun for her that actually catching it. Dog got couple good scratches under her eye and a hole in her ear for the trouble. Haven't seen the cat since.
The whole time our two Corgis were about ten feet away barking their asses off. They're smart, they didn't want any part of that sumbitch.

I want my cat Cool to chase the f'krs away, I park my car underneath a huge tree on those f'k heads crap their purple shit all over my nice white paint and it pisses me off to no end, I just might have to pull up a lawn chair on Saturday afternoon with a case of Bud Light Lime and use those little bastards as moving targets with my airsoft gun.
