I told the mods already, but I'm not in the US right now. Here are some pics of my current location and living conditions.
I have to post them up in chunks because of bandwidth limits...

Chic-fil-a in the Dalma Mall?
Doubtful, but I'll let you know...going there on Tuesday-ish...
I'll add more pics as I get around and take some worth posting. The base itself is pretty sparse and temp was 127 the other day.
No Chick-Fil-A....but here's a link...http://dalmamall.ae/en/fast-food-2/

What are you doing in UAE this time of year? I thought you were retired, so I'm guessing a little contract work over in the pits of hell....

Top Secret clearances don’t grow on trees. You get a TS, you are made for life.

You would be surprised at some of the whack jobs that have TS. I've known a few that I wouldn't trust to walk my mail from the street to my front door. I only have a Secret clearance, and feel no need for a TS. But you are correct that it will open doors.

I had a TS in the early 80's......woopie doo, took 6 months to get, from filling out the paperwork, to getting notice.....so then they sent me all over the land to the nuclear plants, the FUN sites to work.....but when the company sold south, I had no clue where to go about it, so left the electronics industry....
wish I had bought MSFT back then.....:issues:

In UAE? :Jeff '79:
That's like vacation land. They can drive themselves to a sit down restaurant downtown some where. Or they can go to a hotel and get hammered at the bar inside the pool. Yes, inside the pool. Near the pool is a man made beach with a canal of some sort.
If memory serves, this one...

Edit:
Nope, not that one. That's Dubai, although it is similar. We were in Abu Dhabi.
I also want to thank the European lady tourists. We had been out in the boonies for a coupla months. We went from crappy conditions to a five star hotel that served a tasty Lobster Thermador. The hotel I'm talking about handed out towels at the entrance to the pool/beach. The ladies, after receiving the towels, decided right there was good as any place to change from street clothes to bikinis. :omg: Thanks again, ladies.

Every time I see that name, I think of Fred Flintstone.......Abe Dhabi DOO....
Used to have a TS for many years. It was downgraded in the 80's after the Walker instance. Had another one later in with the LCAC's when I was one of two for the Classified Material Storage custodian. Imagine having two engineers in charge of your CMS system instead of the electronic guys. Made for about 1 year of sleepless nights worrying if we did the correct destruction and if we loaded the communication gear correct. It was fun going in at 11 PM to load the crypto for the boats.

It's not about what you know, it's who ya know. I've heard of some folks keepin' a clearance active due to a hookup. Say they're not in a job with a clearance but know they'll need a clearance for a job in the future. They talk to said friend who makes the right inputs and voila. Not me since I heard it through the grapevine, oh yea, heard it through the grapevine....

Living on base.... I miss cold water. AC in the shitter near my room in a can wasn't working last year when I was here, still doesn't. Chow hall food still sucks.

I guess we got rewarded for being in the shit for a bit. Big ole Suburbans to go where we wanted too. Oh and the deployed chow hall, the food isn't usually too bad but it's the same stuff over and over again with limited to no options other wise. With that said, the chow hall did provide me with the only time I've ever had Chicken Alfredo that tasted like tuna. I still haven't figured that one out. It was at Bagram and surely prepared by a TCN. I figure "George" from Sri Lanka had a crash course on American food that didn't work out so well. :D

The ship I was deployed on stopped in Dubai for a few nights. My buddy and I went exploring on foot and walked miles and miles. After we pulled out of port, it hit me that I had just walked all over an Arab country with a Jewish American doctor.

Yes there is a pool...think bath water warm.
I really miss having cold water in the shower. It's the little things, ya know. I've said it before but I think this really is my last trip out here. Not getting any younger.
