Not a thrill for you southern guys and California girls, but a huge day in my world.
It has been +90° for the past week, so why not shop winter wheels & tires for my new to me Acura ILX.???
Ben at Discount Tire hooked me up with Liquid Metal Atom 16"wheels for $64 each, $5 off from the advertised price because they didn't have the cheaper ones that I originally wanted, and 4 General Altimax Snow tires for $100.00 ea.
4 valve stems for $3 each and 24 lug nuts for $45.00.
They are also putting the tires on the rims .
With the $75 rebate, total cost is $643.00. :D
I have 17" tires on there now and went to 16" rims, with comparable tires which are narrower and 1"taller, so the diameter will be the same. Skinnier tires go better through the snow.
I love the General Altimax, as I had them on the Bimmer and they were fantastic.
My only worry is the 7.5" ground clearance.... We shall see:ball:

It's kinda like that cone course that you drive.
Seeing how fast you can go in snow without losing it is the ultimate driving experience.
Some win, some lose. I thoroughly enjoy high speed on ice.
Here is a local bar band from back in the day. Billy Sheehan, the bass player, went to my high school, and Dave Constantino the guitar player owns the music shop in my small village now. He still plays out.
You better think twice!!!.... High speed on ice !!

BTW...
Tire Rack would have cost $735 for just the wheels & tires, not put on the rims.
Tires, wheels, hub rings, lug nuts, valve stems, and the tires put on the rims, $643.00 out the door.
Plus, I'll probably be able to sell the rims for $150- $200 after I'm done with them.
I'm happy. :seasix:

Will the steel rims clearance clear the calipers?

Tire Rack is good for info too. If you put in your car info and the tires you currently have, you can look up the height and circumference.
Then check the tires you just purchased to make sure they're close. :yesnod:
Good deal on the new sneakers :cert:

Ben said the were the correct wheels, plus it's not a high performance machine. So I would imagine they wi!! clear them.

I just plugged in my car. Model. Year and engine size. And the ones that I got were the same that Ben verified over the phone. I'm confident they will be just fine.

Why 24 lugnuts, isn’t that a 5 lug wheel?

Lug nuts sold in packages of 6. Kinda like 12 hot dogs to a pack, and 8 hot dog buns in a pack.

Must be the time of year for tires. I just put new BFG All Terrains on my F-150 yesterday. $1150 out the door with tire replacement warranty. And, made in Murica!:seasix:

Killer deal on the Winter boots man! :cert:
I'm used to paying more than that just for the tires.

The Altimax is being phased out for the new, more expensive Altimax, so there aren't many left. If I didn't already own them, I wouldn't know how good they are.
Liz has them on her Jeep Compass year round.
In water? They're great too.
I never ordered a smaller diameter or skinnier tire, but I'm looking forward to seeing their performance.
I'm sure that lateral performance will suffer, but it's a 4 cylinder, so I'm not gonna be cornering like the BMW, and realize that I have what I have..

:D I've worked with good engineers and couple that must have gotten their "degree" off a cereal box.
More times than I can remember I've caught stupid mistakes from the later. Those boneheads are the ones that yell the loudest too :nutkick:

What a smoking deal.
I guess ordering winter tires & rims on the 4th of July is the way to do it.
