I found a Winegard satellite dish on the roof of the RV I'm purchasing.

It likely was put up in 2012 or 2013 when the coach was built.

Is it going to be a standard definition dish? I heard Directv was going to cease SD broadcasts in 2019.

Which services will it work with? Directv / Dish / something else?

There is no receiver so I'll have to buy one. If the antenna is only SD then I'll just do without.

Never heard of an "SD only" dish. You can probably check on LNA compatibility if you can get a serial number off off the unit.

FWIW, I would just spend a few hundred (~300) and get an automatic antenna for the service you prefer, instaed of trying to stop and sight every time you want tv.

Put a stripper pole in that RV and you'll forget all about TV.:yesnod:

Not having TV will limit his entertainment options if he injures himself while working the pole.

It might be worth looking into satellite internet. As you are aware, campground internet can be very spotty and low bandwidth. That and the DirecTV Now app will serve you well.

If the first, it's standard definition, if the second, it's high def :yesnod:

It's just a round dome, around the size of a basketball. I didn't see any wires running to it. I'll get down on my hands and knees next time I'm up there and look for connections, and look for model/serial numbers.

It appears to be the type that finds its own az/el angles to the satellite.

I have grandfathered unlimited internet access tethering thru my cell phone.

To tell the truth, I watch very little TV. On average, between 0-2 hours weekly.

I'm honestly just fine with the over-the-air channels, and occasionally streaming FoxNews through my iphone (unlimited data) and maybe (just maybe) using an HDMI adapter to view the streaming FoxNews or NetFlix on my iphone via the TV set.

If the rooftop satellite antenna has little or no value, I'll likely not get a satellite receiver just because of the expense.

With an Android phone and a TV that has or supports Chromecast, you don't need an HDMI adapter for your phone.

I'm guessing home systems are set up different, then

Thanks Buster- it already has a roof mounted over-the-air VHF/UHF antenna.

When a campground has lots of trees, it can be hard to get a satellite signal. I bought one of those antennas for my offsite garage/man cave but I think I will put it in my MH to try it out if I have trouble.

I have spent hours talking to Dish because I could not get a signal. Every time it was because I went a month or more without using it. I have learned that you can go on line and have them re-initiate a signal. Until you take your trip, I advise turning on your tv every week or so.

By the way, are you by chance going to cruisin the coast in October. I will be there camping in Bay St. Louis.

The trip is largely unplanned. That's the idea... unscripted, stay or go as the whim strikes. I'll give some advance notice as I go so I can meet up with you folks here and there.

I pretty much stay in Florida, Georgia on trips lasting a week, maybe two. I am hading to Flagler Beach for a full month and I think I may get tired of it. we will see. I absolutely love Carrabelle (Ho Hum Campground). I really need to go over that way more.

If it’s a domed dish, it’s SD.

How much per night do you pay, and where do you stay (state parks or private campground) and what amenities do you get for the various prices?

Thanks BW. That's what I was looking for, and what I had expected.

So... the domed dish is doomed.

I'd rather read a book than watch an SD channel. Seriously. OTA and internet sounds like a good way to go.

:iagree:

A lot of the OTA is HD.

And like I said, I just don't watch that much TV anyway. :dunno:

If I get bored during this trip I may reconsider getting satellite.

I only stay at private as not state parks have sewer that I know of. The most expensive I want to stay at is $125 a day in the summer but if you stay a month it is only $90. Right at the beach

http://beverlybeachcamptown.com/

I generally stay between$ 25 to 45.

I need wifi, sewer and electricity. I do like a bathroom for shower because I hate taking a shower in my little class c with no slides.

I used to do that when enroute to and from the desert SW. Then I discovered casino overnight parking, and haven’t been to a walmart since. Some casinos have campgrounds that are FHU and very reasonably priced. I found one this last trip that had FHU and was free. The campground was shit, but you couldn’t beat the value. Nearly all of them will let you boondock for free.
