NEED-A-VETTE

This one was a shock.
Started with not eating Sunday the 15th. Vet trip on the 16th, where she got an antibiotic shot and subcutaneous fluids. Seemed to do better that evening. In the animal hospital by the next day, Tuesday the 17th. It was that fast.
High fever and trouble breathing that Tuesday the 17th. Earlier that morning she was at a normal temp and no other issues. By lunch, she was struggling to breathe. Rushed her to the animal hospital. All tests, including blood tests, were normal. Kidneys, lungs, liver...all fine.
She has been up and down for the past week. Started out in the oxygen chamber. Eating via a feeding tube, but she was tolerating it well. She was having seizures and we got those under control. She had problems breathing and we resolved that. Fever came down and held steady right around normal.
Everything was finally stable. She just needed some neurological recovery time, which the vet felt could be done at home if we were willing to do feedings and meds. (Of course we were.) Next steps were going to be an esophageal feeding tube and bring her home on Wednesday.
But this morning, she took another sudden turn. Body temp was low and dropping. Blood pressure dropped. She was crashing.
After making plans to bring her home, we instead spent our visiting hours today saying goodbye. She was literally crashing before our eyes. She was only 12 years old, but her body was done. ☹️
This was a hard blow after just losing our other kitty in September.
She was a beautifully, lovable kitty and she will be missed. 💔
RIP Bailey.

I swear I woke up to her meowing for breakfast this morning. Right at her normal time. I realize I was dreaming it or something, but I got up and started walking downstairs. Took me a few steps before I realized she was not really at my feet. ☹️

Very sorry to hear this. You did all you could do. My wife still kicks herself for not seeing the things our cat Mick was hiding from us and the other cats. They are really good at hiding illness.

Pretty much all animals hide pain, injuries, illnesses etc.
It's a survival instinct. In the wild, those animals are selected as prey.

What bothers me is our cat BO, the larger brother to Diddly, has been jumping up on the bed at night, and now sleeps a good section of the day on wife's side of the bed.....a significant change of habit over the last almost 2 months now.....

I think they just want to be warm. All my cats did that as they got older. Bailey would even get under the covers, if you’d let her. :funny:

The house of a coworker blew up yesterday, killing her 2 cats and dog. One of the cats I gave to her over Christmas break.

I remember from 40 years ago, the ex/kids mom had a Golden and a black cat named Sally.....well, her ex slipped some poison under the apt door that had too much clearance, and killed the dog.....some time later she got this dream to find a Golden CAT.....so looked around and found 4 wheel drive....that was his name, because as a kitten in my bare arms, Sally cat spooked him and he dug in and jumped outta my arms....leaving two patches on each arm.....
SO he was named 4 wheel for short.....they lived for quite a while, until the kids were 3&5 anyway, after the divorce, like two cats here, found them in the street in front of the house..:sadangel::sadangel:
our cats here are from the same litter as your cats were from Sandy.....
Linda named them....Bo and Diddly
When I was a kid, folks got me a dawg, named TRIX, because he would not do any.....he was a Samoyed known for being independent and not doing tricks or training very well, if at all......he was a great escape artist, always off the chain, heavy winter coat, hated inside so we left him out, he was 10+ y/o when he ran in front of a car....:sadangel:
We also have a dawg here now, Tinker is a VERY FAT Chiwawa, black....and when she want to run out front, I let her out through the garage.....if it's winter she comes back in as a chilly dawg, in summer she is a HOT dawg.....
