View Full Version : Just met a candidate for TN Governor

So I just wasted a half hour of my life arguing with some lunatic running for governor, Basil Marceaux. He wants to move the state line to where the original line should be, putting my house into Georgia. After telling him nicely several times that me (or any of my neighbors) had wanted to live there we would have bought a house there.
He also informed me as a former Marine he was entitled to be a federal judge and could walk into any Supreme court and replace the judge. I told him to try that and see how long it took him to make bail. He said he did do it once, and lo and behold they escorted him to a cell. They let him out because, "I was right and they couldn't charge him".
He also said the line was going to be moved whether we wanted it or not. I told him to move it would require TN to agree with it and Congress to approve it and it wasn't going to happen. I also told him he would never get the votes because no one in this area would vote for it including me. He said that wouldn't matter because when he set up his sovereign state there would be no more taxes, and that anyone who had ever been arrested would have their convictions overturned because they would have been charged in the wrong state. I told him whatever, no one would support it and that he'd never get the votes. He said he had over one million views on his videos. I told him BFD, flat earthers get a lots of views but no one takes them serious either.
Ready for this? He replied, "You should. The proof is there." At this point it was no longer any fun belittling him. I just told him to leave and to take his sign (that Rita had told him a week or so ago he could place by the road) with him. He informed me that that part of my yard was a state right of way and he could place the sign there if he so desired. I then told him the ROW was for state use, not individuals and if he didn't take it not only would I pull it up every day I would prosecute him for trespassing and that he was no longer welcome on the property.
These folks not only vote but run for office (he got 3k votes last time - his eighth attempt).
Holy crap.

As soon as I posted I knew it would happen. This is an old pic but the first one that was handy.

Sounds like a real nut case. So what does it take, like 50 signatures and $10 to get on the ballot there? Sounds like it if this guy is on the ballot.

Actually, I believe you have to be half nuts to run for public office today

I heard about the state line thing many years ago. I forgot the story now, but I believe it was a mistake at the time that has just been accepted as correct now.

It's only an issue now because Atlanta is perpetually in danger of running out of water because they built so fast they didn't include enough reservoirs. Moving the line where they want to would give GA access to the Tennessee River.

We had our own "real life" SC when we went to a local UCC church.

Art was diehard Libertarian who "figured out the tax code". It worked so well ( and he sold it well too ) that not himself but also Wesley Snipes ended up in federal prison for tax evasion.

This is his eighth attempt (so he said). If you look at the ballot where folks list personal achievements his says "Frequent Candidate".

Dude is a nut job...and now we know we have at least 3000 more (just like him) living here that should be relocated to California.

If he were to change that to "Community Organizer", he could be President.
