I assume this occurs after the concert. Correct?
My bands are dying off and I bought tickets for the Doobies that include a meet and greet. No guarantee they or I will be around much longer.

Usually before the concert although some prefer afterward.
Did the meet & greet for Kansas, The Who, Peter Gabriel, Joe Satriani, Ron White and a few others.
Some are better than others. Be sure to bring an item for them to sign if you so choose but be sure you have time to get it back to your car (if it's heavy) before the gig.
Pro tip:
It's nice to have some everyday banter, especially questions about them. Much better than the same stuff they hear from thousands of fans.
Had a great chat with Roger Daltry about Bono from U2
I asked Satch about the acoustics at smaller venues like the one he was going to play that night.
They let their guard down a bit and seemed refreshed not hearing the same 10 things. "I've been a fan forever" "your music changed my life" :needcoffee:

Agreed, usually before the concert from what I have seen.

If time allows.
Before gig:
I sat down with Tab Benoit for a couple of hours talking about hunting and fishing. He doesn't hunt or fish, but, does own hunting and fishing camps he writes at.
Talked about him having to eat yankee food while on the road.
After gig:
Sat down with Joe Louis Walker and talked about his time singing in his mom's choir, and how strict southern grandparents are.

I've had the good fortune over the years to see some pretty big names in some small clubs where it was possible to have access to them before the show. I mean sit down and have a beer with them access. Among them have been Elvin Bishop, Albert Collins, John Lee Hooker, and Muddy Waters.
Muddy Waters was actually at a larger outdoor venue where I had access because I knew the promoter. Actually hung out with him and some of his band, which that night included guest guitarist Johnny Winter.
They were all very nice people.
Got to do a meet and greet with Dennis DeYoung (Styx) as part of a PBS pledge drive donation. Meet and Greet was after the show, he and his wife were both out shaking hands. He signed the backstage passes my wife and I had, and we gave them to our son and daughter.
When I met him and shook his hand, I said "Mr. DeYoung, thank you for doing what you do."
He had to think about that for a second, then he smiled warmly and said "You're welcome!"

Joey Kramer, Brad Whitford, and Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith. It was cool. Each of them spent about 45 minutes talking, then took questions, then came down into the group and chatted. Tyler and Perry were an extra up-charge that was ridiculous.

I partied with the Butt Hole Surfers in their tour bus before a gig. We met the Stone Temple Pilots there too. Ya, the junkie was still alive, and in his full glory of assaholicness.
Jeezus & Mary Chains were partying there too.
I have been back stage for Ozzy, Rush, Steely Dan, Rod Stewart, and have eaten with their band mates back stage, not even knowing who they were until they were on stage :Jeff '79:
Those are the ones I can remember. :D
Just be normal and not star struck and you'll be fine. Like Scott said earlier, do some homework and it may pay off with an extended chat.
I met Ian Gillian in a bar in Buffalo and chatted for a good 15 minutes until my wife gave me the hairy eyeball. They're just normal people so just treat them like you'd treat a new acquaintance.
