Was putting an SSD 2103 IMac. Before glueing the glass screen back in I hooked up the tiny connectors and fired it to test. (Once you put it down on the glue strips it’s on there damn good.).

Spark! Tiny fire on logic board. Blew it out right away. Unplugged. ****.

Burned off a few tiny little teeth on the plug. Ordered a new cable but I have a felling I’m out $1,200.00

On the upside, I took that same SSD (cloned) and stuck in in my 2009 MacPro. Works perfectly. (And it’s not supposed to. I force flashed the firmware beyond what Apple says is possible for that machine.)

Won’t know until Saturday the fate of my IMac. I’m no electricamatician, but I’m pretty sure fire is bad. :shots::shots::shots:

When I do the disk utility some things say....
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
I heard that if you restart holding one or two keys down it will repair them.....do you know the two keys :confused5:

Despite mrvette’s comment, you may be OK, OP. I’m thinking that the subject connector may not have been correctly/fully seated, hence the arc/fire. So the downstream circuitry may not have been subjected to any more voltage than intended.

If the connector was somehow connected backwards (not that I know of anyone actually doing that :D), I respectfully withdraw my expression of support.

Not backwards. Should have cable tomorrow. We shall see.

First I would run disk utility on the drive. That will reset disk permissions. (Your error seems to point to a permissions issue.

Then shut down, unplug and press the power button for 2-3 seconds to reset SMC

Plug in and hold down command-option-P-R all at once. Hold it down until the Mac restarts at least twice. That resets the PRAM.

If none of that works, do a clean install of your system.

What kind of Mac, year and operating system (you can find out by going to “About This Mac” upper left menu.

It's simply telling you that the file has been modified, and because it's been modified Disk Utility can't fix the permissions on it.

ARDAgent.app is the Apple Remote Desktop agent, and the file shown in the path above is the binary file contained within the app package. It's normal for the file to be shown as an error here. Simply ignore it.

Apple KB article TS1448 details which error messages you can ignore in Disk Utility.
The error that you provided is shown in the list, so it can be safely ignored.

Update. Fried. Now disassembled and put away for now. But now that my old machine is running no interruption in work. I’ll look for a used logic board or the same model with a cracked screen. Or part it out. The screen is worth $500, power supply $350 easy.

New board is about $400.

What sucks is I have new RAM (32g) and an extra SSD now.

I buy these old machines because they run forever. Unless you dick them up. :needcoffee:

This comes at a bad time. I fired my biggest client last week because of their toxic culture (stress was making my illness flare) so we are hustling to replace them.

If anyone knows someone who is running a business with over $5m in revenue who wants to grow and they are not dicks, introduce me.

I need to buy More computers. Even the iPad I’m posting on has a cracked screen. Which I just had replaced. :confused5:
