I was reading the recent posts about knives and remembered I have an old Cold Steel Tanto in the safe. The blade is etched on one side with "COLD STEEL INC
VENTURA, CALIF MADE IN JAPAN and the reverse is etched MAGNUM TANTO II SAN MAI. It is in excellent condition in its original sheath but the box is gone.
Anybody have thoughts about what it might be worth as I probably haven't taken it out of the sheath once in the last 15 years?

Wise guy. I used to do Photophucket, but they went full retard on us. Recommendations on a hosting site I can switch to, or can I send some pics for someone to host for me? Thanks!

You can either attach it or email me the picture and I'll put it on my photobucket account.
PB finally offered a $100 a year plan that offers third party hosting.
Cold Steel is not a company known to make knives that appreciate in value over time. So it’s probably worth what you paid or slightly less.

Hey Robert, What's your opinion of Benchmade? Thinking about one for EDC. I'm currently carrying a Kershaw Emerson knife, it was 30 bucks so I don't care if I lose it, but thought about getting another liner lock that's a little more 'high end'

Benchmade is an ok production knife.. I carry a Benchmade Griptilion now and then. It’s one of the few production knives that I carry.

I have had it (and ignored it) for so long I cannot recall what I paid. JRD77VET is willing to host me some pics (thanks Jeff!) so I'll get some into the thread when I am sober enough not to cut my fool self taking photos.

You know you can download the image from Photobucket onto your device and upload the attachment directly to here.. no host needed.

I used to use Photobucket but I refuse to pay them for the privilege of accessing my images. They recently decided to ransom people's memories as a revenue generator; so the "free" part of hosting pics there ain't free any more.

I don’t pay anything.. I still have access to all my images.. I just can’t hotlinked them.

I wasn't expecting much quite honestly, I kind of knew what it was, but searching that blade on eBay turns up some rather pricey auctions with watchers. Looks like that thing is worth anywhere from $300-$500 dollars. :seasix:
I think what it has going for it is the fact it is Made in Japan with San Mai steel. I didn't know what San Mai steel was, but apparently it is some form of lamination according to a quick WIKI search.
Interesting stuff.

The pronounced line about 1/4 inch from the edge is the insert of different material. I checked eBay as well but came away confused since the knives shown have several different etching designs and verbiage.
If it trips anyone's trigger, it is for sale. $250.00 plus postage to forum members sounds fair to me. Respond here or PM if you wish.
