Looks like I'm destined to always be put on the difficult projects. I get an easy 30 hours next week in Atlanta, and GWiz is on Spring Break then, so I'm driving a rental car up Saturday morning and will get to spend Sat-Mon with her, spend 30 hours on a client site Tue-Thu and then drive home. After that, I'm on a critical project that was supposed to go live last JULY. I'll be on this project until the end of THIS July.
I do have to admit, I love being in demand. If this keeps up, I'll win a trip every year. :yesnod: Took 17 days off in February, and a 1 week idle period due to client ineptitude, and still the top producer in the entire company YTD...1000+ people.

It's free, it can be fun, and if you can build your skills, you can have a generation of employment in a high-dollar industry. :yesnod:

Interesting tidbit, this client was originally a client of Deloitte, and they delivered a crappy solution. They do nearly 40 billion in revenue a year and are a direct competitor of ours. Our team even dropped the ball, hence the delivery date of LAST July. Now I get to make things right, and I will. :yesnod:
Coming from a dinky town in Florida, I never realized that I could make such an impact in the Fortune 500 arena. :leaving:

I've worked with Deloitte before. Hard to believe they're still in business.

Doesn't matter how big you are, it all comes down to individual people who step up. I chuckle when I listen to my manager bitch about millenials, and even funnier, a guy who's in between his (he's older) and my age, and is steadfast that 40 hours is all he has to work. :slap: Hate to say it peeps, if you want to play in the big pond, you have to pay your dues. 40/week ain't gonna give you a monster paycheck...nor a ribbon.
I concur. Do whatever it takes to get the job done. With your manager's attitude, is it any wonder the timeline wasn't met? :bigears:

My manager is awesome, and worked side-by-side with me on the last gig. He's only been with the company since the end of last year. His boss is my old manager, and he's the one that's been communicating with me about this project. A quote from him: "No messing around on this project man, we sold you real hard." I read this as a huge compliment. My employer knows I can get the job done, and they used my history and ability to close the project change order to reboot the project, and deliver by this July. My new project manager couldn't believe I worked 74 hours last week. 74? Seriously? That was a vacation.

Two scenarios that would be funny for different reasons:
1. Hey, Datawiz, your new assignment should be real easy. Shouldn't need more than two monitors to handle it.
2. Hey, Datawiz, your next assignment is pretty complex. You got room for four more monitors?

3. Hey, Datawiz, we are designing a new application with significant accessibility functionality and we need you to represent our vision-impaired user base and not use a monitor.

For this company I am a data architect. I move and transform data from legacy systems into Salesforce. I've been a programmer and data guy for 30 years, so I hit the ground running. Salesforce is the 800 pound gorilla in the CRM business. This stock chart says it all. :yesnod:
You don't have to be just a data guy to be in the salesforce ecosystem. There are tons of roles, project manager, engagement manager, technical architect, solution architect, ... and many lesser roles. The education is free for the taking for those who want to dip their toes in. (link in my other post) It's a very cool, and flexible platform. :seasix:

I agree!
It been nice lately, to get down to under a 60 hr. week! :cert:
some bosses/companies do not reward extra effort/time. and some people do not want to trade their time for extra benefits and pay. they are quite content with their balance of time worked and money earned. they will faithfully do their assignments, year in and year out, for as long as you want them to, but come 5pm, they are heading home for dinner.
others, such as Dinky, have decided that they will trade more of their time for more rewards.
neither is right or wrong, they are just different. the challenge to the boss is to figure this out as soon as possible so you can put people in the best place to benefit the company.
mr. 40 hour likely looks at Dinky as a money grubbing, no life, workaholic. maybe he watched his father work all his life and die at 60, never retiring, and has decided that he wants to be able to see sunsets from his deck while he drinks a beer and have time to do hobbies on Saturday.
and Dinky looks at mr. 40 hour as a lazy, time clock watcher who is letting so much money slip thru his hands.
me?
i might wander down to the shop later and un-clamp some things. expecting company later! they are staying for dinner, will crash in the guesthouse, and then i'll make breakfast tomorrow morning for all. my bills are paid.

:DAB:
It's not completely about money, in this past project's situation, it was about the customer, protecting my employer, and successfully finishing the project. If I were a 40/hr a week guy, this project would have run for another 4-5 months. Unacceptable for all involved.
In better news, word just came out that the client has decided NOT to bring in 4 more years of data! My roll-off from this project happens at the end of the week! :hurray: So looking forward to something new.
Oh, and Dinky. :funnier: :funnier: :funnier:
when you are at the worker bee level, you don't get to see the bigger picture. all you know is what gets plopped on your desk everyday.
you aren't included in profit sharing plans, you don't get stock grants. you show up, do your job, get your paycheck, and you go home.
big picture? never heard of it. he just does what is required of him. and the world needs those guys. they don't create internal squabbles about who will get the next big project. they don't fight over the last bonus dollar.
not everyone wants to be a manager, nor is everyone suited to be a supervisor. they have enough problems just managing their own work and life, they have no business telling 20 others how to do their jobs.

all smoke and mirrors.
you just pour all the 1s and 0s into a bucket, put a lid on it, carry it to the next room, and then pour them all into the new computer, being sure not to spill any, nor to get any in the wrong places. done. pay up sucker!:dance:

That can be done on two monitors. When you get to the tests/quizzes, you have the original content on one, and the active test on the other. :yesnod:
