Is it safe to fire ammo that old? I mean, that's 58-years-old....

if stored well, yes.

last month i shot some 1968 vintage 30-06 ammo. worked fine.

you ask, "how do you know how old it is?"

fair question.

it was military surplus, and the military has the maker put the date on the head stamp, as well as the maker's initials. in this case it was LC 68 - Lake City, 1968. 147 grain ball ammo.

I agree, our teachers should have arms, how else will they write on the chalkboards?

I've got milsurp from the 50's. It'll fire, but is highly corrosive. I just have to be diligent about cleaning the Garand after firing the ammo.

I've got a few cases of milsurp .303 that is loaded with cordite filaments that seems to have just broken down. About a 50% fail rate. So I bought me a bullet knocker and started knocking...

...Like I said, a few cases :banghead:

Yeah, until some thug wrestles the firearm away from the teacher and uses it on them.
