How many here would not deal with or associate with them if they were not family members :confused5:

I adopted a new rule once I hit my 30's... that siblings must be best friend material... or I don't go out of the way to associate with them.

Summary: no breaks because the brothers-sisters are blood related.

This doesn't mean I shun or badmouth them, I just don't attempt to spend time with them like I would for friends.

Look, we all grew up, moved out of 'rents house, and started our own lives. Of course the personalities and lifestyles took different paths. If it's not compatible with mine, then it's silly to cause both them and I grief by pretending that we are close friends.

I've got a sister that I rarely contact. We seem to run across each other some of the time.

It's not because we planned it that way.

I get along just fine with my brother and two sisters. It helps that we don't spend a lot of time with each other. I see my brother the most, and it's usually when we are golfing or grabbing a beer or lunch (or both.) I see my sisters maybe an average of three days a year.

One I would for sure. The other one is sort of a helpless puppy so I gotta do what I gotta do.

People are assholes and family are just people with your same last name.

I occasionally talk to my sister, but we're not close. (Well, she is in Mexico, on the opposite coast...)

As for my brother, I wouldn't give him the time of day, and he wouldn't either.

I have two older brothers still living. One of them lives four hours away from me. I see him every now and then and we talk on the phone regularly.

The other one lives ten minutes away and I haven't spoken to him in 14 years. Neither has my other brother.

During the week my mom died we were discussing funeral arrangements and when there was a disagreement he told my wife "You are not a member of this family and if your husband is not man enough to tell you that I am."

So we have spent 14 years showing him who is not a member of this family.:yesnod:

I have a step brother and step sister. Love them both.

I have cousins that I grew up with, some of whom are great people; others are shall we say, less than noble.

I get along fine with my sister and brother, at most I see each of them three times a year due to distance, other than that we talk/text occasionally

I have a brother 13 years younger than I am ... I wish we were closer - we try to stay in contact and talk on the phone every couple months. Truth is we are very different people. My parents spoiled the heck out of him as he was the "perfect child" and I was not. He got straight A's and never caused them problems and I .... didn't.

Funny thing is although he is a successful Engineer, he never really rose to the higher ranks in our company (we ended up working for the same large corporation). I retired as Director - I was more of a people person and he was more of a heads down techie type.

I think he got a full shot of chain for that one, along with the anchor that we are tied to for laughing at it.

No siblings here. Just the way I like it.
