You literally open six cans and dump them in the crockpot. And add some diced sausage.

2 cans seasoned blackeye peas undrained (Margaret Holmes or Glory brand)
2 cans seasoned turnip greens undrained (Margaret Holmes)
2 cans Ro-Tel tomatoes undrained (spicy as you like)

1/2 lb diced Conecuh sausage

I put the ingredients in a pressure pot, cooked 35 min at pressure.

Or you can just put a crockpot on high for about an hour and a half.

I found this recipe on New Year's Day because my Mom wanted something with blackeye peas to have with our NYD lunch. Something to do with luck, to last the entire year. Whatever.

One bite and I couldn't believe how incredibly good this is. It's one of those dishes where everything just comes together so very well.

Don't try to tweak it. I have. It just ruins it. It's just fine as it is.

It's so good I've not been without having a batch of it in the fridge since Jan 1. Not kidding.

And the number of calories in an eight ounce bowl is 184. You can eat a bucket of the stuff.

Perfect late evening snack.

If you can't find Conecuh, Polish Kielbasa might be good.

But seriously.

Look for, and find, the Conecuh sausage.

Don't try to tweak the recipe. I have, and it doesn't work.

I can get exactly one ingredient (Rotel) in these parts. So, making tacos tonight.

Calorie count is good... how much sodium is in a bowl?

My best friend was born in Louisiana -- I'm gonna make a big spicy pot of that stuff and surprise him tomorrow. :seasix::seasix::seasix:

We're a little further south of you, Sea Six, but I'll bet I can find all those ingredients at our local Publix.

Can't find canned turnip greens here. Wonder if I could substitute marijuana leaves?:barnbabe:

I make a rice dish with those dice tomatoes as well.
Just cook up the rice and dump a can or two in.

Unfortunately, you got to buy a helluva lot of sausage to get online

Conecuh sausage is made in southern AL.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't find it in your local grocery store, Buster.

I sold my Alabama house last year and am in north central Florida. We had plenty around Birmingham. One of these days I am going to stop by the store in south Alabama near evergreen I think.

:iagree: we used to buy it at Costco but now I get it at Kroger. That is the best sausage you can get

I want to try this, but I don't like turnip greens. Why can't I substitute spinach? Also, if I don't drain anything, it seems like this recipe would be pretty watery. Also, since I don't live anywhere near L.A. (Lower Alabama) I'll have to substitute the sausage.

I'd go with spinach over other greens.

Just made this as a half recipe, i.e. one can of each vs. 2. I pan seared some garlic and onions first, then dumped everything in. I also drained the black eyed peas because it seemed too watery already. Locally sourced Holmes Smokehouse sausage was also substituted.

My finicky mother said it was OK, but she didn't care for the black eyed peas. I liked it....couldn't be any easier, and there will be leftovers, which is a plus.
