Funny, one of the important steps when doing astrophotography is taking numerous shots using the same exposure with the lens cap on. To capture faint light from nebulae and galaxies many short duration photos are stacked together with software. When stacking the normal "light" photos in post processing you include the "dark" frames. The stacking software uses the dark frames to identify sensor noise so it can remove it from the light frames. Greatly improves the signal to noise ratio of your light frames.

This is quite good. I've seen a lot of them today and this is one of the best. Unfortunately around here, the moon set occurred before the eclipse was complete so it was hard to get quality shots.

Kudos to your friend. Love to see a link to his work.

I actually didn't vote at all but was holding my vote to the end of the poll as a tie breaker. Think I owed you one from a few months back.

I've set up several polls in the past but always in a new, fresh post which makes for a nice uncluttered poll but is a bit of a pain, especially with attachments. I think the attachment issue is why NEED-A-VETTE adds a poll to the existing thread.
