I hate IE9 because it doesn't work with any of my websites for work. I downloaded IE8 from MS, and it says it isn't compatible with my system (Win 7 Ultimate).

what did you have before you down loaded IE9?

I've run IE8 on Win 7 Ultimate successfully before.
Did you unistall 9 before trying to install 8?
I ran it ever since I bought this computer. I uninstalled 9, and then when I went to install 8, a pop up comes up and says it isn't a compatible OS. On the MS web site, it gives you options for every version except 7 on the IE8 tab.

My company has a browser add-in for IE that is used by a bunch of people (it provides a set of utilities handy for transcriptionists who type medical reports into our system). I wrote and maintain the add-in and all its components, among other things. When IE9 came out I heard our add-in didn't work. Turned out to be an easy fix, which is a more than I can say for the bump from IE7 to IE8 (which coincided with the Win7 release - lots of fun.) I didn't even bother to try out the pre-release versions of IE9 like I used to do with IE. Been burned too many times.
The think I noticed about IE9 that I hate is that it is really easy to accidentally load the wrong URL using their smart-search feature or whatever it's called. It's hard to explain but say you have downloaded a file from a web site www.foo.com/file_version_0001.zip in the past but want to download www.foo.com/file_version_0004.zip. It is really easy to end up with the 0001 version on accident if you are not paying very close attention. Also if you download an executable or install of some sort like an MSI file, you have to jump through hoops to run the stupid thing.
