Most of the Bugs landed back on all fours.
Although, it would have been messy for the folks in the convertible.
They were lucky.

:cool1: video.

The one at the 3:00 mark impressed me. Still carrying enough speed while sliding on the roof to blow through the next corner too.

Jeez, what is it about that corner at the 'Ring that's causing all the problems with overshoot and over-corrections?

I wonder if the corner remains unchanged...

No shit. Lotta bodies flying out of cars.

A lot of people looked like they didn't even try to turn and went right off the side. That motorcycle.

I've never driven it in real life but I've driven it probably 400 times on GT4. I think I know which corner that is. It's very tricky because it's a blind corner at the top of a rise that cambers away. You're doing a terrific speed before you come up to it and it catches me off guard almost every time.

I am amazed at the amount of shit that was flying out of the cars (drivers included).

The P Cars lower center of gravity seems to help, but you could tell the "snap steer" from lifting the throttle.

It might scare the hell out of you, but once committed, you can not lift the throttle mid turn.

This was 1970. Earlier in the year the Grand Prix Driver's Association had voted to refuse to race at the 'ring, due to it being unsafe, with no barriers.

The track was resurfaced, barriers added and certain corners changed.

I'm betting that, the freshness of the asphault in this film is the clue, and along with some over-exuberant driving by the locals, it's the bitumen curing out of the surface, making it slick, causing these wrecks.

It appears that in 1970 it was not a good idea to drive a car who's manufacturer's name started with a "V".

Volkswagens and Volvos didn't fare well at all around that corner. :willy:

Anyone can take any road-legal car on the old 'ring, after buying a ticket, or you can take the "'ring taxi" and have a local 'ring runner take you around in a BMW M3...

Here's an updated look at the corner in question. The first time I raced it, I went offroading, too much understeer.

Cool.

Is it still an off-camber corner that pops up at the top of a rise?
