Work. Midnight shift.
I've played through 100 watt amps before, hell I owned a few. But all of them had a Master Volume. The SL100 Plexi is a non-master volume amp. Want this killer tone? You gotta turn it up LOUD, drive those tube and push some air. And playing at this kind of volume is a different animal too. When you hear that hiss, all kinds of shit starts happening.
:Jeff '79:
There isn't a pedal on the planet that can recreate this. Not one. Aside from the visual aspect of one of these -what's cooler looking than a Marshall stack?- who the hell needs 100 watts now? 20 and 30 watt amps sound great these days. My 20 watt Friedman will peel the paint off the walls AND it sounds terrific.

Tubes have a VERY different sound than SS. For guitar, even acoustic, they just sound right.
Older tube amp I replaced with Carver mono blocks.

One of my greatest regrats (sic) in life is not learning to play guitar. I’ve been a music lover my entire life, but never learned to play anything. So, I just sit here and play with myself.

This. Although I like the sound of humbuckers amd marshalls, I'm more of a strat and Fender deluxe or twin. Clean and punchy.
Here in Austin all the clubs have kick ass sound systems with subs and the whole nine yards. You can run 25 watts and sound like a damn monster.

I won't play on a solid state amp. No how, no way. Give me 6L6s and 12AX7s all day.
No seriously, give me some. Damn things are expensive. :D

I try to stock up buying used as long as they still test well.
Some older guys out there are sitting on a bunch of them that were never used.
These are using 12AX7B, 12AT7 and 6A2s but it's the KT 120 tubes that bite the wallet at 50 bones a piece.:kick:
