My Grandfather taught me this: If the birds singing are driving you nuts, or if it's the dogs barking or cats caterwauling (making a shrill howling or wailing noise), shut them down by making this noise: Hoh-Hoh. Do it rather loudly, and make sure you lips are rounded to make the sound. It kinda sounds like the sound a monkey makes but not as grunt-like. Each syllable of the word is stressed equally.
I'm not kidding. Even dumb birds like Mockingbirds and Blue Jays heed the sound, although you may have to repeat it 3-4 times with them. Barking dogs quieten down immediately. If they don't just make the sound a little louder and more emphatic, like you're angry.
You're welcome.
