Just stumbled across these pics; taken in 1976.
I bought this 1975 X/19 from a girl that bought it new a year before... and was about to be repossessed. Only had about 8500 miles on it.
A small car, the pics make it look bigger than it really was.
Engine behind the seats; it was fun to drive... but you'd never win a race with it. Manual trans; one of the last vehicles I owned that was manual. Kept for about 18 months.
It's not a Fiero !

I had one of these. Looked just like it, except interior was black. It was a neat little car even with the 4 cyl. Would have preferred the 6, but it was won in a card game. No choices on options.

I always thought the X1/9 was a cool car. Never drove one.
At my first job, we had a '66 V-dub as a parts delivery car. Thing had bigger jugs, carb work, ported heads, Porsche rocker arms...12 volt. We were out in it a little after closing (5 hours after closing) when we ran across two guys in an X 1/9 at a stop light. Man, it was on! Light turns and we're wide ass open, yankin' gears. It was close, but we were pulling him ever so slowly.
That's when I noticed we hadn't really pulled away from anybody behind us at the light. We were racing our asses off and nobody but us even knew.

I had two friends that had X1/9's and they were a fun car to drive. Not much on raw HP but that made you become extremely smooth.
Bob had a '74 X1/9 and I helped hopped it up. Bigger cam, header and exhaust plus rejetted the carb on the "large" 1.5L engine. Also put wider tires on it. That handled like a go kart and could really shine in the twisties.
Karl had a '80 X1/9 that he kept immaculate. He purchased it when he was in the Navy on sub duty ( out of NH )
One late winter day he came back down to PA and it had duct tape on the lower part of the driver's door. I asked what happened and he said he got stuffed into a snow bank by a state snow plow truck.
