Former Democratic Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) tweeted that she hopes all NFL players kneel during the national anthem on Sunday in response to President Trump's remarks attacking Colin Kaepernick.

Edwards, who left Congress earlier this year, called Trump a "white supremacist who squats in our White House" in her tweet.

Trump suggested at a rally Friday night for Alabama Senate candidate Luther Strange (R) that NFL players like Kaepernick who kneel during the national anthem should be fired and fans should walk out.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a b---- off the field right now,'" Trump said, adding, "'He is fired.'"

"When people like yourselves turn on television and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem – the only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it's one player, leave the stadium," Trump added Friday. "I guarantee things will stop."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell responded to Trump's remarks on Saturday, calling them "divisive" and saying they show a "lack of respect" for the league and its players.

“Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities," Goodell said.

Yes, "divisive", but NOT in the way YOU would have us believe. Also, to GET respect, one must EARN respect. Get it?

I have no respect for anybody sits or kneels during our National anthem. Only ones excluded are people in wheel chairs.

This NFL crap honestly doesn't bother me all that much.

It's not as if anybody thought they were anything other than ignorant, disrespectful, self absorbed, idiots before they started doing this kneeling nonsense. All they're doing now is proving yet again what we already knew.

You don't want to stand? Go for it. If you try to tell ME not to stand... well... that's when we're going to have a problem.

it's this simple:

Those kneeling could instead send an editorial letter to their local newspaper, or call a news conference at their homes front porch, or go to town square and give a speech.

NOTHING is stopping them from doing this. But on the job (a job that depends on fans to support the sport)... I don't want to see it there,
I will take my dollars to where I personally feel the most joy with.

Unwise?

You see, you just reinforced my somewhat comical remark. It is EVERY citizens right to stand up to injustice and protest peacefully.

The fact that these protests haven't resulted in anyone losing their jobs is the only reason people are cranky about it. Perhaps we shouldn't have forced them into a recruiting platform. :cert:

Are you saying that there was a time when the national anthem was not played at NFL games, or are you saying that there was a time when players never were on the field during the national anthem? Are you telling me the military approached the NFL to make those changes, and paid for that?

He's just repeating stuff from the people defending the current kneeling players, that's all.

NFL, now NBA.... adopting disrepect to our flag and institutions.

More and more, liberals/left are defining themselves as anti-American. But it all boils down to Trump!

He is their motivation. They'll screw the country to get back at him.

Just makes me dig in harder. Deranged assholes can die in a fire. Trump plays
them just like shitstain Obama played his own. :issues:

You hit on the key word. They are not protesting an injustice. They are protesting their PERCEIVED injustice. Because a court did not rule the way THEY thought the court should rule, then by their determination, it is an injustice.

I might support them if an officer confessed to killing perps for sport and was busted and ultimately let go, I "might" have some empathy for their cause.

Under the circumstances, I have NONE. I just got home and heard that the Texans locked arms in protest. That's my home team...FK THEM. I'll burn the Texans shirt I have and will never watch another game.

I have lost all respect for even JJ Watt who I consider a stand up guy.

I despised Obama being president, but he was still president and I accepted it and respecte dthe OFFICE, if not the man. These ass clowns don't even have that decency.

Trump is dead on right. Each of these players should be told to stand facing the flag, hand on you heart, or don't bother suiting up. The owners are the majority of the problem.

In case anyone was wondering, the playing of the National Anthem at sporting events started at Baseball Games during World War I to encourage patriotism and support for the war effort.

I'm not sure when it spilled over into other sporting events.
