View Full Version : Obviously my Suburban is rendered invisible when in motion

I have come to the conclusion that my gray 2001 Suburban becomes invisible at anything over 25 mph. I had another vehicle pull out in front of me tonight and when I blasted the horn, it sounded weak.
This time it happened to be a Subaru Forrester and my Suburban has a 2 to 1 weight advantage. I guess mr numb nuts missed the physics class that day :slap:
I just ordered a set of Hella horns for the Suburban. 114 Db should be a good upgrade for 16 year old horns. I conferred with my mechanic and he said they will pass PA inspection :seasix:
At least now I will get their attention :D

So long as they aren't like those d-bag air horn things.
People driving down the freeway blowing those scaring people need to be kicked in the nuts. :nutkick:
I did consider those with it's own "special button" but will stay legal.

General Lee horn?
OH HELL YEAH! :funnier: :funnier: :funnier:
And get one with a remote; park it at an Antifa rally, and sound it off when there is a good crowd of them around. Watch them scatter like roaches! :funnier:

I'd go with the classic, but then, I'm in Tejas.

Since it is GM - replace those burned out running lights
Otherwise run with you headlights on full time. That is what I started doing. Had a silver car for a time and cant recall how many times poeple pulled out in front of me either.
I have one of these on my bike. It seems like nobody ever sees you on a motorcycle, and the stock horns suck. I've had to use it many times, and it really works to get their attention!

I don't think it has anything to do with lights. I think it's something to do with the perception that a large vehicle must be going slow.
My dually is lit up like a f'n Christmas Tree and people pull out in front of me more than any vehicle I have ever owned. It is a weekly occurrence (happened on the way to work today actually) that someone pulls out in front of me to the point that I am standing on brakes in order to avoid grease stains on my grille.
Add the trailer... even more people pull out in front. :slap:

My vette is extra horney I picked up another lo note from junkyard 5 bux....wired it in and adjusted the notes to be additive..... so really loud now.....only time I use it is to get people to look at the damn ROAD instead of their effing Cphones.......
:issues:
Back when I was a young lad and my name was 454_71Stingray, I had a yellow 71. I swear if I had a dollar for every time someone pulled out in front of me Id have a yellow '17 also. Its a YELLOW car WTF people? I feel your pain but at least you dont live in Myrtle Beach. between the gray-hairs and the tourists I just quit driving it in the summer.

A friend has the train horn setup on his motorcycle. The air compressor squeezes in where the tool kit would be, under the seat. It's....it's.....well, it's loud as shit. Definitely an attention grabber.
I'm assuming that any setup for a car or truck could engage a much larger air compressor, so those set ups should be even louder.
Feel free to post more, by the way. :seasix:

After I retired I drove big trucks for a few years. Those d-bag air horn things as you say saved me a few times. Some times it takes that much horn to get the cellers/texters and socker moms attention when they are doing stupid things.
It was them or me and as far as I was concerned it was going to be them. They crashed into my big rig there were going to loose big time. Its amazing how fast of a response you get when you wake them up out of their stupor. Those asshole are so engrossed in everything but driving that regular horns do nothing, but give them 10 seconds of air!

I have the same problem with my 2003 Suburban. I think because it's green, it's camouflaged. It's been a problem since I bought it new, do you suppose there's been a recall?
That horn would be SO MUCH FUN!!!!

I love yellow cars! I've owned two Sunfire Yellow Vettes, a '66 and a '67. The '67 always won Best in Show, and the '66 always won Ladies' Choice (when there was such an award). But it depends on the make of the car:
Corvette: Yes
Acura NRX: No
Ferrari: Yes
Maserati: No
VW Beetle: Yes
Mini Cooper: No
Back in the 70's my friend had a beat to shit 67 Falcon. He put a Train horn in it.
Scared the carp out of people. He loved when some jackass in a nice car moved in front of him in line for gas. He's lay on the horn and they'd carp themselves.

That was my '78 Suburban ( except brown and a little more ugly ). 400 small block, full time 4WD , 35" tires and a 6" lift.
Idiots pulled out in front of that one too. :slap:

More white privilege.
Will it never end?
