A con artist will typically prey on the greedy, the desperate, the naive, and the gullible.
The more of those traits he can get out of a target the better. And that is because those traits will trump sound reasoning.

There is always a risk involved in any transaction. Any time you take money out of your pocket and release it, you run the risk losing it.
All the con artist has to do is convince you that there is little to no risk, and big rewards.
