Fergi 2006-2017

We sent one of ours across Rainbow Bridge today. Fergi was a Schnauzer/Poodle mix. Probably my favorite dog- she was brave, she hunted varmints, she always picked me when it came to a lap to sit on. Some of you may remember about a year ago when Fergi got out of our yard and was missing for a week. She was found close to death and severely dehydrated. It also caused some of her organs to start failing. We tried to keep her "normal" through medication, but the vet had told us to expect her to continue her decline. Yesterday she could hardly breathe. Today when she ran out to meet me at the garage, she collapsed. It was time. During her time on medication, she would lose bladder control and you could tell it affected her. She was a proud dog.

There is a reason they die younger than us. We owe it to them to be there for them when their end comes. Imagine how hard it would be on them if we passed first.

And there is no shortage of others waiting to take their place in a loving home when you are ready.

Thanks for the replies. There is a period of time when you are basically keeping them alive on meds, that you re- evaluate why. It was strange waking up this morning and not having her at the foot of the bed.
