View Full Version : My story of withdrawal....

The other thread is about used up; besides, this is a new subject. First of all, the medical info on the interweb about withdrawal is full of shit. It says that withdrawal symptoms begin 5-8 hours after your last drink for the day. Think about that: If you have your last drink at midnight, withdrawal symptoms manifest themselves at 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM the next morning? I've never craved a drink before I went to work or while dressing in the morning.
It's already been about 39 hours since I had a drink. I guess I'd like one, but I never drink in the daytime. Be that as it may, last night wasn't as easy as I thought it's be: Out of habit I went to fix a drink before my brain kicked in. "No drinks" I reminded myself. Went to play on the computer instead and try to sell some stuff.
Didn't go to sleep until 11:00 PM, an hour later than usual. Slept pretty good, except for the two usual trips to the bathroom. Damn cat got kicked down the hall; she screamed when I stepped on her tail: "You're the one who can see in the dark...not me!", I yelled at her.
When I got back to bed, discovered that my bed was wet. "WTF! Cats pissed in my bed!, dammit!!!" I slept on the carpet, even though my pillow was wet, too. Damn them!!!
Couldn't go back to sleep--heart racing, breathing shallow, mind racing. Soon it's 5:00 AM. Stared at the ceiling until 6:45. Got up, went outside and fed the cats. Little bastards....

Sure it was the cat that pissed the bed?
Sure it was the cat that pissed the bed?
If my cat pisses or shits on my bed one more time, it's going to go live in the forest. :yesnod:

I've quit some things I won't even talk about here, and I've never had any withdrawal symptoms, unless you want to count a hangover. I quit smoking by chewing the gum for less than a week. Not one cigarette for nearly 15 years now. Psychological craving, sure, but no physical symptoms. I guess everybody is different.

:rofl::rofl:
Quit drinking 16 years ago. Was on some heavy meds which said in bold letters to not drink alcohol. Haven't had a cigarette in over 20 years. Quit cold turkey to get high speed internet. Wife couldn't believe it and she still smokes to this day.
Good luck on the 30 day dry out Larry. I could tell some stories about my Grandpa quitting cold turkey, I remember my Grandmother walking into the bar, looking him in the eye and saying it is either me or the bottle. Grabbed my hand, I was about 5 right after my Mother passed. In the dead of winter in Michigan, he beat us home and was dumping the bottles down the drain.

I've quit lots of bad habits including alcohol in my life, and never had a withdrawl symptom with any of them....no cravings either. I think either you're an addictive personality or you're not and that's the difference.
Although.....I am a food addict and that's been tough to change! :sneaks:

I began Day 2 of alcohol detox almost 3 hours ago my time. That's precisely 2 hours, 50 minutes, 4 seconds ago. **** the tenths of seconds and milli-seconds. Funny....at precisely 6:00 PM I heard a voice say. "Larry, would you like a drink?". WTF?? I was alone. I went to the bedroom and picked up my 9 MM and my .357 Magnum...and several clips and a box of .357 ammo. Checked the doors, they were already locked.
Got incredibly hungry all of a sudden. Made 6 pieces of toast and ate them with jam, swallowed down by a liter Coke. Then threw up. I hate that...so will the housekeeper.
Felt queasy, laid down on the bed. Then I felt a sort of allergic reaction reaction coming on. I have food allergies, so that's not all that unusual. but this one is itching to the bone! I have bloody scratches all over my body, and it just keeps getting worse. I've taken a handful of Benadryl with no relief. My blood pressure is at least 250 over 140, heart is racing.
Must have been something I ate. Surely it'll settle down shortly. I also think I'm getting the flu: My nose burns, and I'm coughing and sneezing.
I'd call someone to look at me, but I can't find the phone. I'm going to go to sleep. Nothing beats a good night of sleep. I think this withdrawal shit is way overrated!

sounds like that to me too. I didn't think you drank enough to be experiencing those kind of symptoms but I guess everyone's different. :willy:

Try Zyrtec instead of benadryl. One a day keeps me from itching. Hope you are better when you read this.

"Larry, would you like a drink?"
Oh, I hear things often:
in my first wifes voice
"You good for nothing - lazy - poor excuse of a husband"

I keep my bad habits duct taped in the trunk.
Sometimes "Yes" sounds like " mmmfmfmfmmmfmfmnnn" and it's hard to distinguish from "No" but I go with my instincts.
