I would guess they did this just to make a stir to get people talking about them.

They have always done things that are controversial in order to get the attention of people/shoppers be it good or bad.

They've done crap like that for years, but this is a new low. Even 20 years ago they were using half-naked teens (who looked to be 13-years-old) in their ads. It was nothing but soft porn. For pedophiles.
