Hmmmm, good question. It doesn't have cross-hairs in the pic, so I don't think his wife took it.

Here's the scoop on the photo. A friend and I are keeping an eye on a couple homeless Bald Eagle fledglings. A few days ago their nest fell. At this point in their development they are still being fed by the parents. Typically if a bird ends up on the ground -which is not uncommon- Ma & Pa will feed them right where they are. One of the two did end up on the ground and the other found a good perch so he's fine.

Unfortunately the grounded bird managed to get himself to a branch that the parents have no chance of feeding him from. He's not being fed and it's hot out which means dehydration is becoming a real concern. We called the University Raptor Center and explained the situation to them. They've got us on Eagle watch.

I've got a bunch of photos in his current location so I left the camera at home that day and rode my scooter down for a welfare check. My buddy did have his camera along and snapped the photo after I turned around and rode home.

I suspect they're going to have to rescue the bird. He's in a bad spot and not getting fed.

Any chance that you can foster that bird, or would it have to go to a rescue facility?

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been contacted about a potential rescue. I have a hunch it's coming to that. Reaching him is an issue. No access from the shore, and he's about 30' up a tree.

Yeah, but the cool factor would be exponential. You may even be able to train that bird. Probably have to pick up some sort of permit for that though.

Good news. After 36 hours stuck on this snag, this Juvie figured out he could fly and took a short circular flight over the lake and came back and landed on a branch. :cert:

Very cool, thanks for the update.

Does he have a name yet? (I assume it's a "he").

No idea whether it's a her or a him. So, it's been dubbed "Herm." :cert:
