Use a restore point to reset your computer, then run all the antivirus software you have. You're infected.

[Mac User] But Mac OS is so much safer and doesn't get viruses [/Mac User]

Run complete OS updates through the App Store. It should catch the bugs effecting Safari.

This happens frequently to my wife although she uses Win10. It locks the tab and browser as you describe. I can invoke task manager and kill the browser app. I've done multiple virus scans after these occurrences and never found anything. Happened on my PC a few times as well.

Probably coming from poorly written ads that are resource hogs.

I use Yahoo as my home page just because I hate change, and I have no problem with it. However I do occasionally get those same warning bullshit lock ups. It's just a money grab they tell you to go to a site that wants money to fix it. Total scam.:issues:
I just hit control/alt/delete and get out quick when it tries to get in. The longer you're exposed to it the worse it'll be in my mind. I use Avast Free and it seems to catch them.
Haven't had any lately. And no lasting problems.

Mac OS has updated to v. 5 for seirra. 10.12.5

There is some effetive free antivirus softawer aout there for mac, but one of the best things to do is use Firefox for your browser and get the ad-blocker addons.

A complete upgrade (download and install) from el Capitan to Sierra at work using a hard wired connection, then running various updates like Flash, etc... takes about an hour and a half start to finish.

Just upgrading one version shouldn't be to bad, but I don't know about DSL. What's your download speed? Go to Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test (http://www.speedtest.net), run it (it's free), and let me know the UL speed.

Win 10. Use Firefox with the ad-blocker add ons. If you ahve antivirus, disable it and use windows defender. I would also download malwarebytes (free) and run that after you do a full/complete scan with windows defender. I use that at work and rarely, if at all, get any viruses on 800+ computers running win10.

Also, can you take a screen shot of what your start up apps/programs menu looks like? (find it in task manager or type MSCONFIG in the search bar then click the start up tab).
