I'm always checking out the free stuff columns on Kijiji/Craig's lists and it's amazing what people give away. Anyone with a pickup could furnish a whole house including appliances for NOTHING!
There must be 10 nice Fridges, 20 beautiful pianos on there and 50 large tube TVs that work perfectly.
I just ran down the street to pick up one of those large trash bins with the wheels on it, brand new. I look inside and here's the receipt for it from a local store.......it's going back tomorrow...37$ in my pocket! cha-ching.
took me five minutes. People just don't care....no wonder they're all in debt.
Last week I got a Henkels knife block for my Henkels, oil filters for my Harley, new spare wheel and tire for my truck, and on and on.
There's firewood already cut up, and they'll even deliver it!....hot tubs....hay bales......trailers......even a few boats.:bilmem:

Got time to kill.....check out the free column on Craig's. :yesnod:http://s6.tinypic.com/2nhomkw_th.jpg

Becka and I are downsizing in preparation for moving to Florida. We are moving from an almost 5000 sq ft house to something less than half the size. Neither one of us has any desire to deal with having strangers come to our house to haggle over items. We have given a ton of stuff to various charities and will take the tax deductions. We have also given some pieces to a couple of young couples we know who are just starting out
People give things away for many reasons

For the most part, the CL free category has junk around here.
I love CL but it seems people just want too much money for what they're selling these days.
Occasionally, I'll score big though.
You really have to scan your categories consistently and know your prices.

In a week or so I'll be giving away about 2,000 paver bricks.

I think of the hammers I took apart so many pieces of large furniture and other crap I didn't want to move south, and look around now at all the crap I DID move south with, I should have held a YEUGGGGE yard sale and sold it ALL, nautical antiques, stereo, the works......can't get shit for it down here now.....

I have given away a few things, and also gotten a few things, most notably, moving boxes. But yeah, I agree with the OP.....you could furnish a whole house with free stuff. My friend in Naples, FL did just that. His house sat empty for a few years and vagrants and thieves had taken pretty much everything and trashed the house. He got most of what he needed to replace everything either free or for nominal cost via Craigslist.

When I got my first apartment, it was furnished pretty much entirely with hand me downs and free stuff from friends, or just picked up here and there. Empty tea crate from the docks in Galveston? TV stand!

...just got back from the store. $37.45 refund for the new trash bin I picked up! easy money.

But the real question is....did you have a spool as a table? :seasix:

Hahaha....that reminds me of years ago. I got two big wire spools and planted them with the bottom side level to the grass for tables, and painted them like magic mushrooms at the lake.....it really screwed with people's heads. :rasta:

coffee table = two milk crates + leaf from dining room table (table was a hand me down from a friend)

....and in an unrelated matter, CD storage? In the milk crates.

Hey. Bring back my wood and stuff, and give the guy back his trash bin. The guy next door is screwin' with us by advertising all that stuff on Craigslist.:kick:

Well picked up some more "goodies" people were sitting out by the curb last night and this morning.

Going to sell them in a garage sale 100% profit.

WINNING!

Having a pickup is great for sidewalk shopping!
