A word about transgenders from someone who should know...

Dr. Paul R. McHugh, the Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University and former psychiatrist–in-chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital, who has studied transgendered people for 40 years, said it is a scientific fact that “transgendered men do not become women, nor do transgendered women become men.

All such people, he explained in an article for The Witherspoon Institute, “become feminized men or masculinized women, counterfeits or impersonators of the sex with which they ‘identify.’”

Dr. McHugh, who was psychiatrist-in-chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital for 26 years, the medical institute that had initially pioneered sex-change surgery – and later ceased the practice – stressed that the cultural meme, or idea that “one’s sex is fluid and a matter of choice” is extremely damaging, especially to young people.

He also says those who wish to change their gender suffer from a psychiatric condition, not an accident of birth. McHugh continued, “it proves not easy nor wise to live in a counterfeit sexual garb. Ten to 15 years after surgical reassignment, the suicide rate of those who had undergone sex-reassignment surgery rose to 20 times that of comparable peers."

When you are the outcast and ostricised, suicide becomes the only option for some. All of those people are ostricised, ridiculed, and are basically outcasts.
I surely can see the suicide rate for them as being very high.
It is very hard for anyone that is not in a transgender's position to understand wth is really going on with them.

Bruce Jenner is a prime example. I just don't get that.

It's pretty tough to argue with that John's Hopkins Doctor who has seen it all.
I also think that DNA research is not advanced enough to find the real answer yet.
I think the answer is locked in a gene somewhere along the line.
I'm not a researcher or a doctor, and have no real world experience in these matters, but that is just my own opinion.

The latest estimate is that 1.7% of intersex babies are born, not a small percentage...about the same percentage of red-haired babies. Since there is a sex chromosome, maybe the answer lies there.

Frankly, though, I doubt Bruce has a big enough following to make any kind of difference. 100% agree. That's not the issue I have. The issue I have is the protected status they expect, the "heroism" they are given, and the demand that the world accommodate their illness.
