ALBANY, N.Y. - Spring can't seem to upstage winter in the Northeast and parts of the nation's midsection, as a far-reaching storm on Wednesday brought up to a foot of snow to areas from the Dakotas to upstate New York.
Scores of schools closed or delayed opening in Wisconsin, northeastern Pennsylvania, upstate New York and northwest New Jersey because of the weather.
Communities in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains were expecting more than 11 inches by the time the storm moved out late Wednesday, The National Weather Service reported.
Up to 6 inches of snow had already fallen in parts of western New York and up to a foot more could fall upstate by Thursday.
Snow fell on the New York City area early Wednesday morning but turned to rain.
The northern Midwest was getting its share of spring snow on Wednesday.
In South Dakota, up to 10 inches of snow had fallen by Wednesday morning, and more than a foot of heavy, wet snow was on the ground in some parts of North Dakota.
Michigan's Saginaw and Tuscola Counties had up to 7 inches, and the weather service predicted waves of up to 25 feet on Lake Superior.
In Wisconsin, WAOW-TV said dispatchers took calls from more than 50 drivers who were stuck in the snow in Marathon County.
The storm shook things up in Nebraska and Iowa and instead of snow it dumped golf-ball-sized hail stones in eastern Nebraska and the bordering city of Logan, Iowa.

Luckily the hail in my section of Iowa was tiny little stuff...just that and rain so I got lucky. I don't want anymore snow. :toetap:

Just rain/snow in the forcast....and a river flood warning. As if replacing my furnace and water heater in the '08 flood wasn't enough. :toetap:
Spring is awesome here in the Florida Panhandle...

Serious question Lars, what are the winters really like in your part of Florida? I have had enough of this Michigan winter shit and this may have been my last one up here. I am undecided about how far south I need to go when I move.

Luckily I was living in Plymouth during that. I didn't have any issues.
I had to replace a wiper blade yesterday, and it started hailing while I was doing it. That sucked.
My in-laws got 12" of snow yesterday. Heavy wet stuff. :ack:
3 inches and still falling here.:needcoffee:

Doh.
I was working and most of the rooms at the hospital don't have a view to see weather at night so I had no idea about the hail until the wife told me this morning.
Her: "Good morning honey....last night your car got hailed on."
Me: :willy: :willy: :willy:
Her: "It was just small pea-sized stuff."

Had some small hail about 30 minutes ago. Calling for snow tonight and into the weekend. Sheesh this global warming is a real let down.

It gets cold in January & February...winter is also our rainy season. Although some winters, like this past one...are mostly dry and mild.
It does not snow here.
We are sub tropical, so we have cold winters...but we also have long summers with typical tropical Florida weather.
Our coast is much like the dune shoreline seen in the Mid-Atlantic...the Carolina's...and parts of the north east...just with much nicer (white) sand...longer summers...and a lot less people...millions less.
btw...if you go much further south in Florida than here...you are not in "the south"...because one needs to go north in Florida to be in "the south" :D
A few Florida areas that I find appealing:
Sarasota area (including Venice/Port Charlotte...Siesta Key and other barrier islands)
Ft. Myers out Islands (Sanibel & Captiva and Ft. Myers Beach)
Naples...(Marco Island & Isle of Capri)
Keys
but all are much more crowded than Destin...and I've spent a lot of time down there...and lived on Marco for a while...and I'm from Baltimore, so the panhandle winters are a walk in the park to me.
Wild horses couldn't drag me away from the Redneck Rivera.

My parents had a condo there. Wished they had kept it!

I hope they sold during the boom and made a bundle.
Now would be the time to buy back in.

They came out ahead. The assessments just kept coming, they got tired of dealing with the headaches, and my mom's health factored in to their decision to sell. We still come to Destin for vacations at least once a year. I would love to live there.

Yes, those condo assessments can get outrageous.
And I must admit again...being a simple man from Baltimore w/ only a HS diploma...a trade & a dream...
I'm so blessed to live here & work here. I thank God everyday. Serious.
