Roku problems....

Just bought a ROKU premier box trying to hook it up through comcast router, not their TV box....and I can't get it to play right, seems all the programs are days old at least....not live with what's on cable at all.....

finally got my desktop machine here to play Fox news on the 19" screen, but it is not HD, and I can't figger how to get it on the large screen too boot, and then on top of it, I pulling it off the .net in this computer, nothing to do with the ROKU device, which plays everything on a several hour delay...at best....

which is fine for watching crap like sports and old TV shows....but ROKU will not allow FOX or any other station to be current with the same damn DAY let along hour or even minits.....so what to do???

went through all the ROKU and Sling sites, and follow instructions best we could and get the above results....

anyone any smarter??

You young kids and your new fangled technology. I still can't figure out how to get non-kid shows to show up on a search on Netflix since my kids mostly use it.:leaving:

You won't get live cable for free without a massive (and inconsistent) hassle.

Well, we gave up and went to bed last night, packed up the Roku box and get my 70 bux back today....

she suggested hooking up my old win10 machine I hated so much to one of the HDMI inputs on the LRoom TV.....and so over wifi it was .com with the router from comcast....and we went to FOX NEWS.com site and found a feed...and there in just as good a display was the shows....no loss of detail at all....

SO I don't need their box at all, just the router.....so I thought.....then it starts dropping out and various crap....

We have the roku streaming stick. Works okay, but the ticket is SlingTV. It's an app that runs on the Roku. $25/month for the channels we want. Can watch live and a good number of older shows (day or two old or entire seasons).

Roku is the enabler and a one time charge. The SlingTV app is what will get you live TV. But it WILL NOT give you live LOCAL channels. OTA antennas will help there.
