When a blower explosion occurs, it's often something in the valve train. Sucking a valve, valve spring failure, etc. Anything that keeps an intake valve open when it should not be. The piston comes up on the compression stroke and basically pressurizes the entire intake then the spark plug ignites the whole intake instead of a sealed cylinder. Basically a backfire on steroids. That's speculation as far as this particular video goes, but looking at the location of the initial explosion, that would be my guess.
Of course the carnage spreads throughout the rest of the engine in a split second. Watch carefully after the bang and look at all the fluid coming out of the bottom of the engine. The bottom end is gone. Very little to salvage here.

I have seen top fuel motors fire balled and come completely out of the car.:cert:

Back in the days before the blower was strapped to the engine, the one in the OP would have ended up in the grandstands. I've seen that before.
