Roman Polanski will make a move next week to return to the U.S. and end his child rape case for good, without serving additional jail time.

Polanski's famed lawyer, Harland Braun, has asked an L.A. County Superior Court judge to unseal a long-secret transcript of the testimony of the prosecutor in the Polanski case.

Braun believes the secret testimony supports Polanski's claim that he cut a deal to serve only 48 days behind bars for raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977, and the judge signed off.

Polanski actually spent 42 days in Chino State Prison and was released. But Judge Laurence Rittenband allegedly reneged on the deal and told prosecutors he decided Polanski should spend up to 50 years in prison. That's when Polanski fled the U.S. for Europe.

Polanski spent another 334 days in custody in Switzerland, while authorities tried to extradite him back to the U.S. A Polish court ruled Polanski has served his time under the plea deal, and now Braun wants the L.A. judge to honor that ruling.

The 83-year-old famed director and husband of Manson murder victim, Sharon Tate,
Polanski wants to come to L.A. and resolve the matter, so he will no longer be a fugitive. He wants to freely travel in Europe and visit Tate's gravesite at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.

I'm guessing he'll die before that happens.

EDIT: Then Meryl Streep will get on stage and weep for him and he'll get an "honorary" pardon by the SAG.

I'd tell him whatever he wants to hear to get him back in the US. Then it's game on. :yesnod:

48 days for rape? :nonod:

While I agree that is an extremely light sentence, if it is true the prosecutor made a deal, it does need to be upheld. ( as wrong as the deal was :slap: )

I disliked her tremendously before, and after watching this, I detest this bitch. Defending a child rapist? The world doesn't see things the way "we" see things?

holy crap.

Caryn Johnson (that's who "Whoopi Goldberg" is to people who don't think she's so funny) would do herself a favor to not opine on things that she has limited knowledge about. Which, by most accounts, is most things.

The Guardian printed an interesting article about, and interview with, Polanski's victim, Samantha Geimer. Perhaps it's best that the court of public opinion keep quiet on this and let the two that are involved worry about how this will settle out.

The final paragraph of the article is very telling:

the deal is... that the Polanski "facts" are already known; part of a court record. No need to wait; there's no rushing to judgement.

He caused his own issues by first bragging about his encounters with these tykes.

Whoopi is simply caught-up in a cult... where she is compelled to support certain people no matter what they have done.

The court of public opinion and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals: The world would be a better place if both were disbanded.

Maybe he and Manson should share a cell.
Let what happens, happen.
Just a thought.

I honestly get where her "logic" is coming from.

I don't agree one bit with it but I see it's origin.

The only thing I would remotely agree w/her in that video is when she makes the statement of not rushing to judgement and getting all the facts first.

That happens way too much these days with things like social media.

Someone is tried in the court of public opinion before all the facts or information comes out.

In regards to Polanski, he's a POS and I have zero empathy or sympathy for him.

agreed on the no rush to judgement, but there wasn't any ambiguity in this case, the POS admitted that he did it, and she's defending him. Sex with a 13 year old whom you've drugged and given alcohol to then raped is indefensible, and her phrasing of it's not "rape rape"? WTF!

from Wiki-pee:

In an interview with Larry King, the victim, now married and going by the name Samantha Geimer, stated that the police and media had been slow at the time of the assault to believe her account, which she attributed to the social climate of the era. In 1988 she sued Polanski. Among other things, the suit alleged sexual assault, false imprisonment, seduction of a minor, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. In 1993, Polanski agreed to settle with Geimer. In August 1996, Polanski still owed her $604,416. Since then Geimer and her lawyers stated that the settlement was completed.

Just to clarify the facts, he gave her Alcohol and Quaaludes in addition to having sex with her orally and vaginally, AND Sodomized her. After she repeatedly told him NO.

He's a Pedophile. He's a Rapist.

Just because the guy has made some good movies, doesn't exonerate him from his actions. The guy is a total piece of shit.

I think he also got a lot of mileage because of Sharon Tate's murder as well. Society had mourned for him and had raised him to an untouchable status. Yes, he was a victim of a bad thing, but bad things happen to bad people as well as good people.

:iagree:

And to stir the pot even more, it's no secret that pedophilia is rampant in some Hollywood circles, so there is probably a little bit of good old boy/girl network going on there. :island14:

I think I am understanding the Goldberg thought process.

Trump - Speaks about grabbing ***** - He must be removed from office. Not her President, racist, misogynist, etc.
Cosby - Drugged victims and raped them - Black AND a Democrat. No harm no foul.
Polanski - Off-site Member of Hollywood - Hollywood is liberal, Polanski did not "rape-rape".

Has she voiced her opinion that Manson should be freed? Or was she busy speaking with Rosie about how Bush brought down the twin towers?

And NOW he's trying to play the sympathy card by saying he escaped from a Nazi death camp in WW2 but his parents diddn't.

Which has zero to do with the fact that he's a pedophile/rapist.

what's never heard on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC is that the 9-11 muslim pilots were already in the country - and taking flying lessons - before the election even took place (when everyone was certain that Gore would be the weinner). The original attack was to scheduled to of happened between March and May.

Funny thing. Jack Nicholson and Woody Allen did essentially the same thing, and are still walking around outside the walls.

Never heard of Jack Nicholson doing anything like what Polanski did.

Anyone got any details?

The only thing I have heard is there were some pretty crazy things that went on at Jack's parties back then. I've heard the Polanski incident was something that took place more than once with other people. If Jack didn't participate I suppose you could say he at least enabled it.

Sad to say back then stuff like this was probably business as usual at Hollywood parties. And they never invited me, either.:leaving:

Well yes; but...

On 11 March 1977, Polanski was arrested at Jack Nicholson's home for the sexual assault of 13-year-old Samantha Gailey, who was modeling for Polanski during a Vogue magazine photo shoot around the pool.

At the time of the incident, Nicholson was out of town making a film, but his steady girlfriend, actress Anjelica Huston, had dropped by unannounced to pick up some items. She heard Polanski in the other room say "We'll be right out." Polanski then came out with Gailey and he introduced her to Huston.

Nicholson was never charged, as his alibi was firm. Woody allen was boinking his adopted daughter, and later married her after wife Mia Farrow bailed on him. Woody's son with Mia is the clone of Frank Sinatra, who admittedly "visited" Mia from time to time. Hollywood royality at it's best.
