This site was converted to https Friday night.

Though I believe all the bugs encountered during the transition have been corrected, and everything shows secure on everything I've tested it with, if you are seeing any errors related to this, please be specific....OS, browser + version, the page URL you are on, and the exact contents of the message (preferably a screenshot).

Note you will see the "mixed content" icon in your browser's address bar in place of the usual lock icon occasionally. That will happen anytime someone posts content (pic/video) from an insecure (http) source. That's obviously beyond my control, will be fairly common, and is nothing to be concerned about. But that should also not trigger an actual warning or system popup message though, those are reserved for more serious problems.

Forum looks like this:

https://s29.postimg.org/wln7ybtrb/YYYYY.png

When I click on any thread or start a new thread I get this:

https://s28.postimg.org/t2eywxc7h/ZZZZZ.png

When I click on "advanced" and then "proceed anyway" I get this in the upper left hand corner of the browser:

https://s24.postimg.org/8cmxxkzc5/AAAAAA.png

Malwarebytes turns up nothing.

I already mentioned that mixed content indication will be common and it's caused by anyone posting insecure content in a thread....Such as the photobucket pics you just posted.

That's going to be unavoidable, and again, is nothing to be concerned about.

Will's issue is well beyond that, and I don't know why just yet, other than it's definitely not a problem experienced by all Chrome users.

Win 7Pro using the latest Chrome with Ublock Origin and Ghostery and not a single problem.

Same thing last two days here too. Windows 10 and Avast, I think. Seems to be okay now though.

I would NEVER expose myself to degeneracy on the internet. If I did, I would probably do so on both my desktop and all of my my mobile devices and browse a selection of choice, bookmarked, vile and obscene videos on all devices repeatedly, meaning that if such sites caused the problem, the problem would exist on all of my devices.

However I do not engage in this behavior.

When I click on any thread or start a new thread I get this:

https://s28.postimg.org/t2eywxc7h/ZZZZZ.png

Here's what I'd suggest doing, in the following order...

1. Visit VB in a different browser just to confirm the problem is limited to Chrome.
If it works ok in another browser, then go to step 2. If not, skip to step 3.

2. Start an incognito session in Chrome and revisit this site. If it then works, one of your installed extensions is interfering. Disable them one by one until you find the culprit.

3. If you are running any antivirus software, turn it off or disable it briefly and then revisit this site. If that solves your problem, look for a setting regarding scanning secure sites, and/or advise what a/v you are using.

Another random thought that may or not apply. This goes back to March of last year when the site was inaccessible for a week...At that time, Dixie suggested people could get to the site by adding a hosts file entry to force this domain to an IP address. That IP address has now changed, so if you or anyone still has that entry in your hosts file, it must be removed.

meaning that if such sites caused the problem, the problem would exist on all of my devices.Funny duly noted, but this seems to suggest the problem does NOT exist on all your devices? :island14:

Completely forgot about that it had been so long.

Thanks Y2K.

All good now!!!

For anyone else who did this and forgot about it and isn't computer literate, run notepad as an administrator, then from notepad open c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

Last line in the file is probably the vettebarn one you edited in in March of 2015. Just delete that line, then resave the file.

You might need to change file type to "all" if the file doesn't show up when you search the etc folder from notepad.

http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/ApexOversteer/in%20thread.pngThough I mentioned this will be commonplace because of user-posted http images, it appears I can write a script to proxy/rewrite image URLs when posted and serve them over https, which should eliminate mixed content completely.

- All video sources that embed here (Youtube, FB, Vimeo, Liveleak, etc) are https resources already. They do not cause that.
- Anything attached (pic/video/mp3) is hosted on our server so is obviously served over https, that will not cause it.
- Text links to http pages do not cause it.

Pretty sure that leaves images within the [ img ] tags as the only possible source of mixed content here.
Have a bunch more research to do, but if/when I can devise a rewrite solution for those, the minor problem you exampled should be completely eliminated.
