View Full Version : All of a sudden, Birmingham, Alabama becomes a Sanctuary City

Those elected officials could give a rats ass about the people from those 6 countries nor those that may take advantage of a sanctuary city. Their interests are far from those issues. Yet, because of their hatred for Trump and all that stands for, they pull a stupid ass knee jerk reaction today.
As a former citizen of that part of Alabama, I am ashamed.
i'll bet not one of them know what muslims believe about non-muslims (infidels, that's you and me).

Wanna bet the officials who did this will be unemployed after the next election?
Not likely in Birmingham unfortunately.

Help clarify something for me.
In a sanctuary city, a criminal is harbored/protected so they are not prosecuted because if they are prosecuted they could be deported and the sanctuary city does not want people deported. Is that accurate?
So an illegal alien gets pulled over with a bag of meth. The city then let's them walk because they may be deported otherwise?
An American however, gets caught with the same amount of meth, and it's the crossbar hotel.
Is that the way it works or is there something I'm missing?
The city doesn't tell the Feds they are cutting an illegal loose.

Close. They still get arrested, but in a sanctuary city the cops make no attempt to determine illegal status. If they do find out they are illegal, they refuse to contact ICE for deportation. They still do their time, but the feds never get the call so they can start the deportation/federal charges process.

:iagree: It seems if the sanctuary city gets some type of tax revenue from the illegal alien, they are more than happy to let them stay.
Just need to hit them hard in the funding. Current laws allow the Federal Govt to withhold up to, but not exceeding 20% . Perhaps an improved law could be passed allowing a higher percentage for cities breaking federal laws. 100% sounds fair to me.

I suspect a lot of this posturing will die down after awhile.

The rest of us will be caught in the middle.
Years ago, I worked with an Engineer who was here from Iran. Medhi and I were good friends and I asked him about all the political protests in his country. He said that it's like anything else...if you want to get involved in all that political stuff you can...or you can ignore it and go about your business.
That's how I look at this. These protests are extremely far away from my reality and they don't affect me in any way. They have nothing to do with me and I have no involvement. Especially in this state, there's so little of that going on. People here would protest more vigorously if the Cowboys traded Dak Prescott.

I'm ashamed of you too.:rofl::rofl:

I expect it to be cut from the landscape, soon.
My bet is certain California municipalities will be made an example of, in the very near future, and *POOF*...

I believe the reckoning for Trumps Sanctuary City EO will come sooner rather than later. San Fran is already suing, and I'm betting they're not going to comply.

I'm saying they're making their legal push back against the President and he's going to break his foot off in their ass.
Then, the rest of the sanctuary cities are going to fall over themselves to get in line and hand over their illegals.

The Louisville mayor is reportedly wrestling with this issue, too.

Glad we moved to Fort Knox!

Seems like having a bunch of unknown foreigners, who have already demonstrated they don't respect US law around a sensitive military base might not be such a good idea. Call me crazy.

Well, maybe not as distant as you think. All it takes is one blocked street that you want to go down, one burned store that you used to frequent, one muslim teacher that your grandchild is exposed to. Then we start getting neighborhood HOAs and civic clubs shifting direction, then a city council election, then a police chief and it eventually ends up right in your lap.

Fort Knox is 40 miles from Louisville and is arguably the safest place to live in the entire state. There is zero drama on post.
With record homicides and record shootings, Louisville faced a plague of violence in 2016. In total, there were 118 murders - the vast majority coming by gunfire. That city's become another Memphis, Tenn. or Macon, Ga.

I see your point, but Fort Worth isn't really a hotbed of political activity. We had about 1900 people do the whole women's march thing in downtown, and the comments I heard from the guys who knew people who went were along the lines of "isn't that cute". We get bigger crowds for the Jingle Bell Run. People here are more concerned with the Stock Show, how the Horned Frogs are doing and what's on special at Old South Pancake House.
I guess what I'm saying is that protesters won't get a lot of bang for their buck in Fort Worth. Dallas maybe, but it's pretty sleepy around here. And I like it that way.
