216 updates and it's taking HOURS. I'm concerned that it may not be real. Is this normal? Started around 12:00 and it's 4:36 here.

It's possible if you haven't updated in like forever. What is your speed of your ISP (you can use Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test (http://www.speedtest.net) to find out.)

Windows 10? It is Windows Update doing it, right? You can see what the progress is if you go to the Windows Update icon there in your tray at the lower right.

Can't see anything. Can't access the computer. Blue screen says Keep your PC in until this is done. Installing update 159 of 216.

As long as this is taking, I could have had a keg.

Can you hear the hard drive? That kind of time on that part of the update makes me think the hard drive is thrashing, you may have problems sir.

Did it get to update 159 and just hang, or has it been crawling through each update?

them 'updates' get zero attention from me, it's a phony spam/crap/virus/spy site......I'd pull the power plug and let the machine settle down for a few minits, power up with no internet access.....and see what's what.....

been their done that problem, especially when MCafee does a scan the last 2% takes 10 minutes, meanwhile the 98% takes 30 seconds
very sucky, indeed

That's a great way to never have your machine boot again.
Been doing it that way for many years, especially since the malware attacks.....which are encouraged by Win10, and so now I have a fresh Win7 machine and a fresh office 2003 install, and it's finally fought the way through all the various site password bullshit and Google/FF remember most of it...and I have Malware bites on it.....
What killed the previous machine was Win10.......very friendly to everyone BUT the user.....

:slap:
You obviously disagree with me, so you know more programming than I care to mess with......Wife bought a refurb machine for less money than the geeks around here want....ANY of them......
I still feel that IF we had found that damn 2003 install disc, the old machine could have hobbled along.....even with the constant power downs at least once a week, I sort of feel that dropping the ethernet cable over night would be a good solution, even though I don't bother.....dumping the wifi was a good move on my end......
gotta admit the refurb cphone is far better than the old one, still a Sammy Rugby flip phone....much louder, clearer reception, no drop outs.....the old one was just flat dying....

It crawled through to 164 then I stopped it. I know that's bad, but I had work to do. I'll manually update when I go to bed and let it do it all over again while I'm sleeping.

You're supposed to set your "active hours" to the hours you use your computer, it'll update outside of that.
Unfortunately for all of us, they only let you specify 12 hours of active time. It's a stupid arbitrary decision that makes no sense; if it were 20 hours it would be far more usable for 99.9% of us.
How about NO updates?? just WTF is SO critical about 'updates' that my machine can't get along without them???
and a further question, just WTF do we need all these pix handling software....ALL pix should be in .jpg and get hell over it already......PIX handler should be a default program to open any pix.....not set here and try to second guess every idiot out there......:issues:

Wait I thought Windows 10 was supposed to eliminate things like this. :funny:
Windows 8.1 here.
Which is why I stick with Windows 7.
I have vastly more control over when I get updates and which ones I want. :yesnod:
Plus less built-in spy-ware from Microsoft. :D
Which is why I stick with Windows XP. :leaving:

Well, there's your problem.
I don't really have any issues with it now that I have used it for a while. The only complaint I had was the charms menu or whatever it is, coming in from the side. Once that was removed, it's been good until about two weeks ago. It freaked out on me and I had to do a refresh which tossed a lot of stuff I had loaded on it.
