Where I live, I cannot build a garage for my motor home and my corvette (national forest land that I lease). I have been searching and searching for property near me for this. So has a friend of mine who has looked at every piece of property in our area to no avail. The prices he has seen are unbelievable in the little cross road community. You would think it was on the beach or something.
Anyhow, I asked a friend to keep her eye out for something.
Two days later she gave me a lead, I followed up and viola, I now own 2 1/2 acres of land. There was a mobile home on it with a 60 foot concrete slab. I had the home demo'd and now I just have the slab. Will make a great rv carport, large storage room and a patio for hanging out there.
But, what is great is that there is a 24 x 36 foot garage on it. Needs to be closed in. I am going ot have a 10 foot ceiling put in. It has a 24 x12 room that I will convert into a winery as I make wine.
Unfortunately it is on a dirt road but, hey, I live on a dirt road and it is only about a half mile from my home. Everybody says we stole it but the seller and I were very happy. Very peaceful there. Here is the garage.
Not able to import a photo right now.
I will show the progress.

Here is the garage. The mobile home is to the left but it is not there anymore. Has a 12x9 lean-to on rear that I could easily convert to a closed garage or room.
Will get new roof in a week or so.

That looks like a metal roof to me....they last forever, just paint it white......

Great job, you are going to love the extra room!
Word to the wise though, I built my home in 1985 with an attached 24 x 36 3 car garage. Within 7 years I added a stand alone 24 x 30. Both have 12ft overhead. I forgot to mention that the basement is another spot. Drive in with 2,000 sq ft! It's never enough for us car guys!! :shots:

Should be fun planning and building what you want.

With 2.5 acres, are you thinking of putting a home there too, or will you be putting up one helluva a garage and playpen?

I'm sure you already have, but make sure you are allowed storage buildings with no home there. Around here they won't let you build garages/pole barns without a house first

Because I did not want such a high ceiling, I am not getting a lift. I really don't plan on needing one that bad. I may at some time get a scissor lift.

You wouldn't believe how thin that tin roof is. IT is just a little thicker than tin foil. The man helping me who does roofing said he has never seen roofing that thin.

It is just going to be a garage, winery room and a carport for my little motorhome. One never knows though. I live less than a half mile away on a lake so I don't have plans for a home.

I wish I could find similar, We love our house and the location, but due to the shape of the lot (long and narrow pie shape tapering to the rear) we can't really build anything else. Plenty of room between the house and the road, but accessory buildings are not permitted forward of the house. Can't go wider as the house is at the building limits due to the taper of the property. My only option is to expand the current 2 car garage forward and make it 2 wide by 2 deep
