View Full Version : How do you adjust to the time change?

It's been almost a week and it's just getting worse! I'm thinking of just staying up all night and not going to bed until 2100. I would be so tired that I should have no problem getting to sleep, then set the alarm for 600 the next morning. That should reset my internal clock, right? What's the flaw in this plan. :hi:

Already tried that.

Already tried that.
Try it again.
I am always jet-lagged so it doesn't really bother me any more than what I fight with every day.
The best way to really deal with it is force yourself to bed at the right time and force yourself up in the morning. Even if you can't sleep then still get up when you are supposed to no matter how tired you are.
After 3 days of that you will be back on track.

I don't know how you do it. It's too late for me to start tonight, but I guess if I do go to sleep I will force myself to get up at the new 0500.:needcoffee:

I build up a tolerance fairly quickly, then I can't take them for a few months. They also wake me up when they wear off, just like wine does.

After doing heavy travel for 10 years it just becomes normal I guess. I once was vacationing in Hawaii and flew back to California. The very next day I flew to Germany. So in two days I had a 12 hour time shift. Flipping the clock 180 degrees. That was brutal.
:shots:
Yes, force yourself to get up early. NO NAPPING during the day. I promise that in two to three days you will not know the difference.
I hate Daylight Savings. It is the the drunk uncle that nobody likes in the Time family.

Isn't that just Tylenol + Benadryl? Just about every sleep aid on the market has Dyphenhydromine(sp).

Try some melatonin. It's your body's natural sleep hormone. Take it when you want to sleep and it will put your body in the mood to sleep.
It's available over the counter as a nutritional supplement.
Works for me.

they do it on a weekend so the effect is minimal. I'm thinking you may be blaming the switch over for some other health problem. Get it checked out. What the heck happens when you travel across time zones???

Working nightshift I'm always messed up in the sleep department. The time change just about put me over the edge but I tied a knot at the end of the rope and continue to hang on.

Never had a problem with a simple 1-hour change. I used to fly a bunch, like 30 times a year or more, and was constantly having to make adjustments and even then it wasn't all that hard for me. Supposedly your body's clock gets reset when you eat. That is, just adjust the time you have breakfast, lunch, and dinner as needed to get your clock reset.

Crap, it IS only an hour. WTH do you do with travels to Europe or the Far East if one lousy hour causes such problems???
There was a time change? :leaving:

I hate the time change. I don't understand why we still have it. The one in the fall is the worst.

I almost agreed with you, but to me they're both bad. I hate 'em. Why do we have time changes? The studies show that any energy saving is minimal.

Masturbate until drowsy. Repeat as needed.
Works for me. I can sleep for weeks on end if needed.

I've tried all of those individually, except the bat. Maybe the trick is to try them all together!
And YES, ONE HOUR DOES SCREW ME UP THIS BAD! Before the previous time change I woke up at 0430 every morning and had a blessed hour and a half to myself. The time changes and I GAINED an hour in the morning and started having trouble getting up at 0600! Now that I've lost that extra hour again, I'm sleeping in until 0900! I've been off all week and trying to get up at 0600, but I can't make myself get out of bed. I go back to work tomorrow and I'm pretty sure I'm hosed.
