Hate crime charges filed in beating on Facebook Live | khou.com (http://www.khou.com/news/nation-now/hate-crime-charges-filed-against-suspects-accused-in-beating-on-facebook-live/382352759)

They can be heard on the video using profanities against white people and President-elect Donald Trump.

Late Wednesday, authorities were reviewing whether the attack could be considered a hate crime, but initially they did not believe that the man was singled out because he was white.

Guglielmi acknowledged that the suspects made "terrible racist statements" during the assault, but he said the investigation showed that the victim was targeted because he has "special needs," not because of his race.

Yes, it's been ruled a hate crime, because the victim is retarded, but not because "terrible racist statements" were repeatedly used during the extended attack. The victim's color isn't a protected class, so no hate crime is possible based on race.

"Hate crime" charge = some animals are more equal than others.

The hypocrisy in the media is astounding, but sadly not surprising.

ABSOFUKINLOOTLY!

If those five had been white, the whole BLM tribe would have been rioting in the streets, burning buildings down and shooting at cops.

While I agree with your sentiment, they aren't eligible for capital punishment, unfortunately. They do seem like future serial killers, though, and ought to have charges racked and stacked.....no plea bargains. I can't see any possible juror giving them anything less than the max.

Neighbor may have helped saved Facebook Live torture victim

CHICAGO -- Charges were announced today in the brutal attack streamed live on Facebook.

The suspects documented the horrifying details and admitted their roles in a racially-charged attack on a man with special needs.

Police say it started with playing fight that may have been fueled by drugs or alcohol. It escalating into racial slurs and profane bashing of Donald Trump.

The 18-year-old mentally-disabled victim was bound, stomped, slashed and beaten.

But during a break in the hours-long assault, he made it to the street where he was spotted by a police officer patrolling the area.

Police say a neighbor’s complaint about the noise and a threat to call the police gave the victim his chance to escape.

18-year-olds Jordan Hill, Tesfaye Cooper, Brittany Covington and her 24-year-old sister Tanishia are charged with aggravated kidnapping, hate crimes, aggravated unlawful restraint and battery with a deadly weapon.

Hill is also charged with robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and residential burglary.

Cooper and Brittany Covington are charged with burglary as well.

All four will be in court tomorrow.

Facebook released a statement saying it does not allow crimes to be glorified on the social media site.

They didn't let the victim go, the victim escaped.

I have absolutely no doubt that the end game for these 4 psychopaths was to kill the victim. He knew who at least one of them was, and could have identified all of them. They should NEVER get out of prison. They are predators. Heck, the one guy even LOOKS like the movie predator.

Jordan Hill, 18, of Carpentersville; Tesfaye Cooper, 18, of Chicago; Brittany Covington, 18, of Chicago; and Tanishia Covington, 24, of Chicago; were each charged with aggravated kidnapping, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to the Cook County state's attorney. Prosecutors said the victim, an 18-year-old from northwest suburban Crystal Lake, is diagnosed with schizophrenia and ADD. The suspects allegedly kidnapped him, tied him up, sliced his scalp and taunted him.

Prosecutors said the alleged actions began under the guise of a sleepover with one of the suspects, Jordan Hill, on New Year's Eve. His family became concerned when they lost contact two days later. According to prosecutors, Hill beat the victim in a van and brought him to an apartment on Chicago's West Side when the torment continued.

"A male shoves the victim's face into a toilet bowl and the victim is told to drink toilet water. The victim is punched in the head. The victim is screaming 'no' in fear when the male walks over to him with a knife and states, 'Should I shank his a**?' Also heard on the video multiple times is a male voice threatening to kill the victim," said Asst. State's Attorney Erin Antonietti.

Police said his beating and torture went on for hours. The disturbing video, which was viewed by people across the country, has been removed from Facebook.

"A male is seen cutting the victim's hair with a knife, and the victim's head is cut with blood coming from the wound. A female punches the victim and is laughing. A male's foot is on the victim's head. A male pulls the cord around the victim's neck, and holds him up while the victim is groaning in pain," Antonietti said.

When a downstairs neighbor complained about the noise and threatened to call 911, the victim had the opportunity to escape, investigators said.

Police said an officer came upon the victim confused and bleeding, who later learned he had been reported missing two days earlier in Streamwood.

"He was bloodied and battered and due to the cold weather conditions, I approached him for a field interview," said Officer Michael Donnelly, Chicago Police Dept. "He was discombobulated, he was injured, he was confused."

The mayor's office said Friday that Mayor Rahm Emanuel has spoken with each of the seven officers involved in the investigation and thanked them on behalf of the city for a job well done.
A family friend of the victim attended the hearing and was reprimanded by the judge for shouting "yes!" after it was announced that the suspects would be held without bail. The brother of suspect Tesfaye Cooper was asked to leave the courtroom.

"I just went to come see my brother, let him know he'll be home soon," said Twin Carde.

The victim's family is asking for privacy as they try to help the young man cope with this ordeal. The four suspects are due back in court on January 27.
