Samsung Debuts New 'Smart' Blu-ray Players
Taking a bite out of smartphones, Samsung Electronics America Inc. March 16 unveiled a line of seven new Blu-ray Disc players that enable easier access to Internet-based content, media sharing across separate devices and simplified networking setup.

Prices range from $149.99 for the BD-D5300 to $349.99 for the BD-D7500. All units feature internal Wi-Fi, with the exception of the BD-D5300 and BD-D5500, which require a wireless LAN adapter (sold separately). The two units also do not support 3D viewing.

The other five Samsung Smart Blu-ray players support 3D playback when connected to a 3DTV. Other highlights include the world’s slimmest Blu-ray player — the BD-D7500 — measuring a slim 0.9-inch in height, and the first audio-video receiver with an integrated 3D Blu-ray player, the HW-D7000.

The 2011 line offers built-in Dolby True HD across the full lineup; DTS-HD also is integrated in the BD-D6500 and higher. Beyond picture and audio quality, Samsung continues to improve the overall performance of its BD players. This year, the entire portfolio features the new Ultra Fast Play technology, which slashes the boot-up time to watch Blu-ray movies by 80% to just three seconds.

Upgrading the players involves incorporating application interfaces from Samsung’s burgeoning app store. Apps included in select Blu-ray players also allow users to search the Web for content on the TV and watch and preview video through a personalized recommendation service.

These Smart Blu-ray players give consumers a way to easily upgrade their existing TVs to access Samsung Smart TV services.”

I think PS3 still remains one of the best on the market. That, or you could be like Mr. 5.3 Colorado and get a dozen Oppo players :rofl:

Sheesh, I don't know how much easier it could be to set up a player. I plugged mine in, it connected to the internet on its own, I was done.

This one certainly doesn't sound that different than anything else on the market. You can get a decent non-wifi sony for $99 so the new non-wifi samsung @ $149 isn't exactly a revelation.

I'd like to play with that Xoom a bit.

I played with one a couple weeks ago. Neat concept but the interface isn't all that smooth yet. It's like all the animations have a low frame rate.
